OK, my esteemed colleagues, what is the low down on Valcyte and Valtrex for viruses. I know that Valcyte is recommended for HHV-6, but what about elevated Epstein Barr and CMV titers? Is it Valtrex?

What experiences have folks had with Valtrex?

Thanks.

Well, I took valcyte for 9 months and it did knock back my EBV, HSV1 and HHV-6 antibody titers. It also helped me feel less ill.

They all ended up rising again once off it.

I'm now on 500 mg of valtrex tid. EBV and HHV-6 are knocked back again. HSV1 IgM is at least negative but the IgG is still as high as the lab measures.

Due to the antimicrobials and also some dietary changes (I've eliminated the major food allergens) I'm feeling the best ever in the 9 years of my being sick (knock on wood). I *think* it is due to both taking antimicrobials and dietary changes...but I'm a bit too new into the dietary changes to say for sure....but I'm suspicious that food intolerance is also a factor in my illness.

Best, Timaca

PS....GI issues were not a major issue for me, so I'm surprised as heck that food intolerance may be part of my issue. To top it off, my degree is in clinical dietetics so this is all a huge surprise to me! [Eek!]
