Two of my boys (17 and 24) are on ABX for Lyme. One has been tested last year is on the low end for testosterone and the other has similar symptoms of low testosterone.

Should I get them some herbal boosters, get them tested (out of pocket expense) any ideas? We could start out slow and see what we get.

I am a couple months away from both of them seeing the LLMD and getting more blood tests, it is a 5 hour drive to see him so I am wondering if it is a big deal to say start them both on a herbal.

All the Best, MattH

I think in most cases you're not going to do to much harm adding in some herbals given there are symptoms of low testosterone. It will be something you'll want to address eventually and perhaps that's a good first place to start. I found herbals to be ineffective in my case, but perhaps it will work for them.

Yea, this is not uncommon with lyme. Sleep is very important for hormone production and lyme can affect the quality of sleep...so make sure they're getting enough rest.

Steer clear of T replacement for now. They're too young and T can cause fertility issues.

Make sure their thyroids are tested as well. It tends to be easier to treat a hypothyroid problem than a low T issue.

No real need to rush testing but it would be good if you could do it.

They're young so good treatment should restore their levels.

Vitamins/minerals are important, especially zinc, D, magnesium...

I've had good results in the past using Tongkat Ali (Longjack). Tribulus will help some with libido too. Both of these have some anti-microbial action as well. Just don't overdo the herb supps.

Good luck.

You might want to try Maca, which is a Peruvian high Andes root vegetable (similar to turnip), that is cooked and dried to a powder.

Maca is said to "balance" hormones for both males and females, and to increase general stamina. It is commonly used by natives for hundredsds of years to counteract the effect of diminished fertility from high altitude living.

It is readily available in the U.S., and being used in as a female hormone balancing herb to increase fertility with some success ... according to those trying to conceive (TTC) on "Mothering" magazine threads.

Good luck!
