Hi all
After a break to let things "settle down", I am re starting rifampin this evening. Not looking forward to it. I am starting at 150mg this time around-a much lower dose. My llmd has told me to try this and gradually increase but am still nervous. I only made it to 300mg last time I tried this but I did feel positive changes in terms of neuro stuff. My stomach was suffering though, despite probiotics. We are going to try one more time. Wish me luck. This bart if tough to get rid of

Rifampin didn't mess with my gut at all. I'm on VSL#3 and Florastor.

And wow @ 300mg being your threshold.

I realy like Rifampin and am currently on 600mg... hoping to climb to 900mg soon.

Thanks everyone. Wiggy-my goal is 600/day. good for you! How quickly did you increase? Did you wait for the herxing to subside or increase a little weekly or what? I don't want to increase too quickly but also want to get on with it!! Thanks for your post-it is nice to hear that others have had to start low and have been able to increase.

I read here that some people did better starting slow. I stayed at 150 for 2 weeks than increased to 300 for 3 weeks. I was at 600 after being on it for 5 weeks and this worked for me.

Good Luck!!!

The only way I could tolerate Rifampin was to take it with food. Even though directions say otherwise, many can't tolerate the GI issues from taking it on an empty stomach.

I was okay taking 300 mg twice a day with food.

DD started out with 300mg with food.

After a few weeks added in another 300mg with food.

She seemed to improve the best while on Rifampin.

Good luck.
