I'm gathering opinions on what is the best thing to do for a 14 year old child who had a tiny tick attached.

From my fuzzy memory when Dr. J was asked this question he indicated he would recommend 6 weeks of doxy as a precaution.
Not sure of dosage level.

Thanks everyone.
I think Doxy is necessary.
What about also adding Zith for Bart? And artemisinin for Babs? Would you add these in for your child? Or is it too much, especially when you don't know if they even picked up an infection?
I'd really appreciate opinions.

My recollection with Dr. J was from last months Lyme symposium at the UNH.
I don't believe Dr. J would treat longer than the 6 weeks from a precautionary standpoint unless there are symptoms.
Doxy is good against a couple of the co infections (for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is recommended even in children under 8).
Not all ticks carry borrelia but we know they always carry something.
When Dr. Sapi did a tick drag in 6 Fairfield County towns back in 2009 time frame the borrelia samples were 60 to 90% (depending on the town) and Babesia was 80 to 90% depending on the town.
This was a much higher % than what the state lab was seeing when they tested ticks (testing for borrelia only) sent in by people who were bitten (the amount ranged from 30 to 40% depending on the year).
