Is magnesium helpful for anxiety? I'm pretty sure I read that it is. I am on an antidepressant and Xanax but still have days where my anxiety is bad.
I don't know if I'm dealing with tick borne illness or just going through menopause. Still haven't made an appointment with my Lyme doc.

I have found Mg Citrate very necessary for dealing with constipation from one of my heart drugs, and for preventing palpitations from my mitral valve prolapse syndrome, but it has not helped my bad anxiety. I do think most Lyme people are deficient in Mg and should take it!
What has helped my anxiety most was reducing my Xanax dose to the smallest dose I could stand, because I noticed when it wore off, it seemed to be creating far worse anxiety than I had before.
I also take smaller doses closer together. Xanax really only lasts 5-6 hours, not the 8 hours it is usually dosed at, so anxiety can go up during those last few hours.
For example, instead of taking a .25 mg. tablet every 8 hours, I take half of one every 5 hours. That makes the same dose last an extra 2 hours and it prevents the roller coaster ride when it wears off before 8 hours and you get anxiety rebound.
I also get help from taking a Taurine supplement. I do not eat red meat or seafood, so I am not getting much Taurine. If you also do not eat much of those things, you might try it. It is dirt cheap. It also lowers blood pressure though, so keep that in mind if yours is already low. For me it was great, since I have high blood pressure.
Some other supps. that I have found to be somewhat helpful are Theanine and GABA.
Lemon balm and valerian were not strong enough to do me any good. I consider Kava kava to be dangerous to the liver, so I have not tried that one. I am allergic to hops and chammomile, which some people find helpful.
Just my two cents. Good luck in finding the right thing(s) to help you.
