Hi Everyone, When I was first super sick my heart sx were off the wall. While I still had many sx, I was stable for a while -- sore, tired and dealing with various things but able to work. Now my heart sx are raging back. I started rif and dorxy about 6 weeks ago. Is this Babs or lyme coming back? I don't think it's a herx. I've herxed before and it doesn't feel like this. I'm thinking babs but I also have increasing neuropathy. Help!

Rifampin can cause a fast heart rate. I typically had pulse in the 120's when I herxed on it every 28 days like clockwork.

There are some days my heart just races and feels like its working extra hard all day. Especially during a meal or drinking water or using the restroom to urinate, so weird huh? It just seems to race and pound. I don't know if its interaction with abx or not bc my heart did this a lot more before I started taking abx again. I can't figure it out so I stopped trying. I wake up some days and its not going to be an issue. Then I wake up some mornings, especially if I got up early.... It's going to rage on all day.

Q-Fever can cause serious heart issues. Not a common co-infection but I had it. Left untreated it effects the heart - Long term Doxy w/ Plaquenil is the treatment. Were you tested for Q-Fever?

You should see a cardio or have your llmd do an ekg/echo.

What causes the heart symptoms? Good question. Since this was one of my first symptoms before I got very sick, I think the tachycardia is caused by overworked adrenal glands. I think the adrenals are doing everything they can to help fight the infection and I think tachycardia is a side-effect of this.

I would also get an elevated heart rate when I herxed, usually the first couple of days on a new protocol.

If you think the rifampin may be a contributing factor perhaps you can switch to either rifabutin or Levaquin.

Are you taking a beta blocker? I find it helps a lot.

If you're looking to blame one disease, I would blame babesia, though Lyme can damage the heart also.

Be aware that many meds can cause tachycardia and magnesium deficiency can do the same thing. Many drugs DEPLETE magnesium, so it is good to keep your mag levels up.
