What causes the ear ringing 24/7 been going on for years and no relief? Some days and nights it is horrible.. My doctor keeps telling me sinus..oh so sick of all this not knowing and unable to understand what is lyme and what is not.. tks.

Right now I am having this constantly along with severe head pressure. Feels like its going to burst.

What medications are you taking?? It could be from the antibiotics. My tinnitus was awful while I was on Zithromycin. After I stopped, it took a few weeks to go away. Now, I'm taking artemisinin and its back.

The only med I am on is xanax and that was given to me by the ENT to help with ear ringing / vertigo . Its not new have been on a small dose for yrs.
I have stopped all meds and supplements for now, the meds weren't helping and the doctors all tell me something different, so trying to find my own way.
I had a specialist tell me that HCTZ a low dose and valium would help ear problems but haven't tried any these meds and I know I won't try valium, will stick with the xanax.

- Xanax can cause tinnitus. Sadly, many professionals out there think it can calm tinnitus but NOT always, not even close.
Xanax caused terrible tinnitus and hyperacusis for me. Found out later why: it is ototoxic, toxic to the ear nerves.
Valium may work for some but it sure did not for me, either. Made me far more dizzy. And it is also ototoxic.
IMO, it is important to get off any drug that is ototoxic (unless required to treat infection and there is no other way) and manage the reason for those in other ways.
There are many other ways, really. But it's best to work with a LL ND (naturopathic doctor) if possible and never good to ever just stop any psychiatric Rx . . . but with ototoxic drugs, the very least: excellent liver support.

It's very complex, treatment also can clobber ears but the ways to work with that are all discussed there.

- Yes, candida sure can but lyme is the main culprit on the infection list and, as I recall, lyme has never been treated in your case. I know accessing a true LLMD has not been possible and that tolerating treatment is hard.
Still, I hope you find what works for you. Until lyme is addressed, you may be chasing this.
NOISE EXPOSURE also vital to consider as part of the equation.
Be sure to not wear in the ear pods or music headphones -- and protect ears with plugs or decibel rated muffs when around a hairdryer, blender, vacuum, etc.
This really matters for everyone. A hairdryer is terribly damaging to ears.
I just had to buy a new one. Only 3 models that were low noise. Each is a hundred bucks.
I've been meaning to put my product search homework in the Ear thread but have not yet cleaned it up.
If your hairdryer is loud, never use it again. Never. It's that important. Even ear plugs are not enough for some hair dryers as sound travels through our bones, through the nose, too. -

The only modality that ever affected my ear ringing was using a PEMF machine - pulsed electric magnetic frequency machine - we hold a white coil next to us as it emits audible clicks of e-m energy. It was 400-700 gauss strength.
I started with just a couple seconds and worked up to an hour of exposure by about the 10th time. My ear ringing would go away for about 6 hours.
A top Lyme doctor said it probably quiets down the nerves to the ears.

Thanks all. Keebler, you are correct I have never been treated like I should have been. I did see a LLMD twice and about 3 calls. Did try many abx but never for long. Still searching and hoping and praying for an answer for me. I do know I had rather have lyme than try abx ever again.

Why does magnesium have to be dosed three times a day? I just checked with a nurse that I know and it is never dosed three times a day in hospitalized patients.

For oral administration,
Because a full day's dose at one time can damage the kidneys . . . the kidneys cannot handle a full day's dose at once, only so much can be absorbed at one time and to take more than the body can easily manage puts far too much pressure on the kidneys.
It wears off in about 8 hours or so, so for full protection, dosing 3 x day is best (with 1/3 a day's dose each time). Maybe twice (at half a day's dose each time) but never just once if you need full protection as many of us here do.
A total day's dose can be up to 1,000 mg to 2,000 mg for some people. More detail in the Magnesium links set. -

I am going through a series of treatments with my "new" llmd.
I asked my dr. about my tinnitus recently and he said after all my treatments are done if the tinnitus is still there he will check me for heavy metals as they can cause this

Oh, and.... some people say that certain abx give them tinnitus, but I have not found that being off of any give any relief so I am doubting that theory if you live with 24/7 tinnitus like you and I do, phyl
