Garden of Life RAW Protein products found to contain heavy metals tungsten, lead and cadmium

Natural News has confirmed, via three different laboratories, the presence of significant levels of the heavy metals tungsten, lead and cadmium in Garden of Life "beyond organic" raw protein products.
This has been confirmed across multiple lots of Garden of Life Original, Vanilla and Chocolate Cacao and Vanilla Spiced Chai. Tungsten has also been found and confirmed in Garden of Life "Raw Fit" products.
Of all the products we have tested at the Consumer Wellness Center laboratories, I have never seen any product with higher levels of tungsten, lead and cadmium.
Garden of Life products we tested showed the highest levels of heavy metals that we've ever seen across all foods including junk foods, dairy products and fast food.

However . . . for everyone:
Do NOT throw this away. It should not go into the landfill.
Check the links but also, if contaminated it should not go into the trash, it could contaminate further, fish & wildlife - and also right back in our water supply. When it lands wherever its going to "rest" the first rain will send this on in the water ways.
The article may offer suggestions on disposal. Your city's hazardous waste department would have instructions, too, if you don't want to have any reimbursement or "register" as having taken this.
Even if it's not one of the contaminated lot numbers (and you are just uncomfortable taking a chance), you should be able to receive a FULL refund from either the place you bought it or the company.
It may be important to have your name recorded and some kind of proof that you have taken a contaminated batch -- there could yet be some kind of more specific information or instruction that you should receive.
If you return to a store for a refund, be sure to get in writing a receipt with all numbers, codes, etc. from the label.
And, if you have a contaminated product, you should be checking with your doctor about what you need to do if you have consumed any of this. -

Personally, I don't consider Natural News to be a reliable news source. Most of their information seems like propaganda. When I see people on social media posting information, I always look to see if it's Natural News and if it is, I ignore it.
Some of their information is probably good, but I certainly don't want to have to filter through it.
This is what Dr. Josh Axe had to say about it on his Facebook page:

Garden of Life is certified Organic, certified non-GMO, certified vegan and 3rd party tested. Mike Adams did testing in his own lab. It's possible there are some naturally occurring metals higher than normal in the soil or that there really is metal added from the processing plant, but whatever you do don't take Mike Adams word for it. I would wait to see more testing from a true 3rd party testing company.
Also, Jordan Rubin resigned from Garden of Life in August 2013 and this is why I stopped selling garden of life supplements. I am coming out with a certified organic line of DrAxe supplements that we release in a few weeks.

Yes. He's sometimes harsh with the way he presents things, or exaggerates. I'm sure Garden of Life will have another company do some testing as well!

- I know sometimes they can be a little "loud" so I looked for independent sources to back up what they say in this case.
They posted lab tests that were independent and show considerable levels of heavy metals. Still, they are happy to have certain levels in a new agreement that seem too high to me even if "naturally occurring" in soil -- I'd want better soil used.
I know some metals do occur in soil but some of those levels for the new agreement just seem too high to me.
Of course, other sources might be considered to confirm or deny this report but, at the very least, anyone who has any of these products needs to consider the information.
Contact someone high up in the company who can address this. Hear what they have to say but also then consider others who might be able to shine light or put into perspective.
And when we buy anything, we need to consider it.
Even some brands of turmeric and chocolate has been found to contain lead in recent years. We have to know as much as we can. -

- I just realized how unrealistic it is of me to want no heavy metals in soil that grows my food (or food for anyone else). But heavy metal contamination is in our air, in our water ways, our food chain, and there is no way to keep it out of soil even on organic farms. When it rains, and especially when it floods, that brings more mixing, too.
Wish our air and rivers were really clean. As long as they are not, our food won't really be, either. We just do the best we can, get as close as we can to clean -- and help clean up the rest as best we can with our choices and voices. -

- The issue of someone who researches and publishes health news - and also sells products, well, that is one to consider.
But all our news, all the "medical news" journals sell health or medical services in one way or the other. Some in the supplement world would rather just study, research, present and share information.
But they've had to figure out some way to make that information accessible to everyone . . . and since that takes considerable time and web costs, staff costs . . . one way to offset that is by offering products that they have helped source to be a a quality they think is top notch.
They should still have a voice yet we do have to look at what they say with a more critical eye. I find that Natural News site generally is fair and balanced in their reporting (though, not always - there is one topic this past year where I think they really failed but can't recall specifics).
The day is far gone where we can read just one source -- or even a few. We have to compare information from many sources to figure out what rings true. -
