Waiting for a call back from Dr.s office, but pretty sure I have incorrect information.
I have very real anxiety over medical procedures, and have to go under general to get colonoscopy and endo. scope (first time ever) early next week. You wouldn't believe how long I've put this off.
Went to pre- op today, and my prep kit says: drink part of my clean out mixture morning of procedure. Nurse said: Follow kit instructions. Now, if going under general,
I cannot drink a sip of anything after 12:00 a.m., right? Ugh. I am freaking out. Can't get through to this gastro office. Thank you.

Never mind, they called me back, and I follow the kit.
Send me a prayer, praying myself here, sure it will be fine, wish I had some Valium!

My friend just went thru one like that...it surprised me cuz i have had many where you just drink the stuff at night. She did fine. Good luck.

Ive had so many I cant count. I tak bp meds so they told me to take it with a small sip of water.
Never had a problem. And im always put totally out.

Well, the kit calls for drinking the 2nd half of some concoction 4 hours before procedure,
um, hello, getting general and can't throw up or I'll die?
OMG, can you believe it, me of all people. But the office girl assured me this is okay... not 'really' general anest.
but assures me I'll be so out I won't even know I was there. I don't get it, need to stop talking about it. out of my control, out of my control, trust God, I keep chanting.
I'm sure I'll be fine (*sob*) J/K, and thanks.

Surprise-really try not to worry. My friend didnt even have upset stomach or problems waking up. And it really is an important test. My dil is a nurse anesthesis and she said when they started using these new drugs it got much easier

Use a straw to drink the stuff. It helps so you don't have taste it as much.
I remember freaking out when I had to do the colonoscopy stuff a couple years ago. The anxiety was WAY WORSE than the procedure and the prep.
It's really not as bad as I thought it would be. My imagination was just wild.
I felt really cleaned out and I actually believe it helped me detox. I felt so much "physically" better after the procedure.

Surprise, good they told you it wasn't general anesthesia. They knock you out so you're in a "twilight sleep" so to speak. Usually versed is one of the meds.
Drinking the stuff cold and through a straw is much more doable than drinking it warm.
I've never heard of taking the second half of the mixture 4 hours before the procedure. In my experience, you take it all the night before. I did have one procedure where they had me drink a sml bottle of mag citrate in the morning and that was bad enough.
Maybe you can ask if it would be possible to just drink the whole thing the night before? That might ease your mind. A
And you should ask them for a script for valium if that's what you think you need.

Oh and if one of the reasons you're doing these procedures is due to Lyme-related pain, you can always have slides of the tissues sent to Clongen for further analysis. Just an FYI.

Thank you- my regular Dr. did offer to write me a script for Valium the day of- he knows my medical anxiety- but I didn't take it: rats!
I am concerned taking this mixture 4 hours before- I've had other (minor, like C- section) surgeries, and it's set in stone not a sip after midnight,
but I guess if they're doing an endo scope too, something's going down my throat. Ugh. I am scared. I know it's not logical, but this is so hard for me.
I don't need anything sent off to labs for Lyme. I think I'm going to let this thread go now, more I think about this, harder it is-
I'm under 50, this is first time, it's for improper digestive issues that started 17 years ago. Time to get checked. I can't fix it on my own, need to know if something...serious.
TMI, I am chronically constipated, have taken all kinds of stuff to clear out, it's the not eating for so long that concerns me, and of course my own anxiety.
I appreciate the replies!

I'm under 50 too. I know it's scary. Your imagination is running wild thinking the worst. Comfort yourself and assure yourself it'll be okay.
Plan something nice for yourself after the colonoscopy.
I had to drink mine in 2 shifts (one 4 hours before). It's better to do it that way. The second shift gets rid of anything left over.
Believe me, there will be NOTHING in your stomach. No worries about vomiting. I think this will be a breeze compared to a C section.
I'd eat soft foods a few days before even doing the prep (that really helped). Boiled chicken, smashed veggies. 2 days before the surgery, I made homemade chicken broth and sipped that the day before (just chicken, carrots, celery and onion with water, simmered all day).
Get some funny movies or books to look at between bathroom runs. Anything to distract.
Bad diarrhea is waaaaaaaay worse than the prep. No burning or pain. You're just cleaning yourself out.

I did the split dose type of prep and had no problems with an early am scope.
Literally, the second dose goes straight through the plumbing nearly immediately.
It's not actual heavy duty major surgery type anesthesia. They use the same stuff in dental offices for iv sedation.

OK so this must be a new thing to drink the rest of the solution 4 hours prior. I hadn't heard of this before but then again my last colonoscopy was awhile back.
So Surprise, you have good feedback here from ppl who've been through the procedure and had to take the rest of the solution 4 hours prior. Hope that gives you confidence and comfort!
And Judie's suggestions about diet a few days beforehand is right on target! That will make life easier the day before and the day of.
Oh and pffft...this will be a walk in the park compared to a c-section or labor. Been through all 3 things. This is the easiest.

I had the same thing two years ago. I don't remember if I had to drink the day of. Don't worry. The drink takes bad but it has electrolytes. It helped me sleep after going to the bathroom so many times and maybe the electrolytes.
Say a little prayer, that helped me. I'll say a little prayer too.

Surprise you're going to do just fine! You've been so good to your body with eating low yeast making foods-Judie is right you will feel better after-cleaned out.
It is important to have these procedures with the stomach issues you've been having. Even if it just sets a good baseline should you ever need one in the future.
You're gonna do good.
The stuff I prepped with for mine was called pico salax.
A wide straw is the way to go.
You'll do the best you can. It will all work out.
