For those of you who had knee arthritis with your Lymes, how long did it take to go away with treatment? What treatment cured your arthritis?
Long story short, over the course of last winter I started noticing increased knee pain after physical activities. Then at the end of last April both knees started aching out of the blue. After a slew of tests came back negative I had a Lyme test done and that is how I found out I had Lyme.
I took two months of amoxicillin before I met with a LLMD last July. The joint pain was still quite dibilating. The biggest improvement I had was after two rounds of cyst busting antibiotics that I started back last September.
However there has been little to no improvement since then. I can go about my daily life OK now and can walk just fine but almost constant knee discomfort/burning feeling continues.
Some days are better than others. I can be more physically active (nothing high impact) than I use to be and my knees ache for only a few days vs 2 weeks but then go back to the mild discomfort.
It is starting to take its mental toll and the feeling of it will be like this for the rest of my life. Before my diagnosis I was very fit and active. I want to get back into weight training, running, and high impact outdoor activities.

Yes. I am still in treatment. I have been in treatment since mid July 2013.
My diet has not been as good as it should be lately. I do stay away from sugar but eat what I feel is a lower than normal amount of white flower based carbs although the white flower based carbs have increased lately.
Interestingly enough I eat a good amount of sugar and fat free greek yogurt and cheese to replace the carbs. Diet guides supplied to me said these are on the OK list. What would be the reasoning to stay away from dairy?
I had x-rays when both knees started aching when I didn't know my problem was Lyme. Everything was clean.
It is just a dull burning sensation throught the entire knee with a slight feeling of stiffness/inflammation. It is always equally mutual in both knees...one never hurts more than the other and they ramp up and down in discomfort together. It is always there and NSAIDS don't affect it in any way.
On another note...as today has progressed the knee discomfort has gotten to a much higher level that it has in a long time and making me want to shuffle my feet instead of walking.
My LLMD changed my cyst buster. This is day 6-7 on it so it looks like good signs of herxing. This increase in knee discomfort has been a common theme with each addition of antibiotics or switches since July.

glucosamine / chondroitin , MSM, and serra peptase emzymes are all very helpful . Bromelain is another enzyme that is helpful.

I have something that works to reduce my joint pain, practically immediately - I take capsules of turmeric powder. I get the turmeric powder in bulk at the healthfood store and dip a 00 size empty capsule into it.

Dairy protein is pro-inflammatory. Also, some people have joint pain as a symptom of food intolerance or allergy. Dairy is one of the most common food allergies/intolerances.
Most LLMD's recommend a dairy-free, gluten-free, sugar-free diet because all of these foods promote inflammation, negatively impact the immune system, and thus may hinder healing and recovery.
For my joint pain, I find stinging nettle leaf to be helpful. Buhner recommends 1200mg/day of the dry herb, or you can make tea with the dried leaves (can purchase in bulk at an herb shop).

Figured I would put an update out there. Switched from tinidazole to Flagyl and on day 6 of being on Flagyl the knee pain increased in the matter of 12 hour or so to the worst it had been in well over 6 months...subsided in about 24 hours. Slightly increased knee discomfort during the second week and then again on day 13/14 the large increase in knee pain and a quick subsidence. Lots of muscle twitching going on in the legs while on Flagyl. Had much improved knees towards the end of the "off" phase of the Flagyl. This is helping me keep optimistic.

Just be careful to up your magnesium intake so Flagyl will be less likely to damage your nerves. (muscle twitching makes me wonder)
Dairy is very inflammatory and so is gluten. Candida/yeast also causes inflammation. So if your diet is not clean you will have a pretty big chance of having more knee pain.

Quercitin, bromelain and turmeric/curcumin in the form of Meriva could help.
Sound like Flagyl will help. I seem to remember a lot of people have felt that Flagyl was the drug that did the trick.

I just talked to my llmd about this.
He said the damage is like a burn. You put the fire out and now it takes time to heal the burn itself.
from what my neuro and llmd say it may take months or a year(s) to get free of the affects
