Is any one doing this? I just read a memoir called twist of Lyme. The author saw dr. J. Of under our skin fame. Was very open with names and treatments and costs. I can't really recommend the book... But one thing struck me...

The Author made reference quite often that after she was done with IV treatment for months and then oral treatment for years.... Dr. J. (I assume) would keep her on 3 days of Abx a month likely for the rest of her life...

Has anyone heard of this? Anyone doing this? I wonder which abx it would be?

Curious...

I know of Burrascano type doctors who put patients who cannot be cured on antibiotics one week per month for life.

This keeps the disease under control. The person can eat a normal diet, and they feel good.

I have a friend who is doing this. She is quite content with her life this way. She is back to her normal self.

See this quote where Burrascano talks about doing this for a select group of patients:

"Unfortunately, not all patients with chronic Lyme disease will fully recover and treatment may not eradicate the active Borrelia infection. Such individuals may have to be maintained on open-ended, ongoing antibiotic therapy, for they repeatedly relapse after antibiotics are stopped. Maintenance antibiotic therapy in this select group is thus mandatory." (page 20)

At one point my LLMD talked about putting my daughter on abx only during her monthly cycle since that was when she had the flares.

Interesting. Thanks TF, SIX and Jess. I had forgotten about that in Dr. B's. Jess, How do you feel doing this?

I ask cause my monthly Fibro type flair has intensified-- it is not related to hormones but at the end/beginning of each month.

When I look back at my logs from my 18 months of treating...other than the first 3 months (when all days were horrible) and when I switched abx which also made me herx... all my bad days were at this time. there were only two months (not together) that I had good days at the end of one month into the beginning of the next.

I am wondering if this might be something for me to try? and which abx would I use? ones i did well on? would I do a cyst buster at the same time? Since I have been off for a while would I need to go back on for a month or so first to make sure I've done some killing? Would I try to anticipate my flare by a few days? a flare indicates die off right? or just replicating?
