Has anyone moved permanently to another state to get/maintain a PICC or Hickman cath?
Doc in my state (this part of the state is a total joke, everything IDSA) promised to prescribe one two diff. times and then didn't follow through so I gave up (after a gazillion phone calls, emails, etc.). The docs here are just too afraid of the big bad IDSA regs.
Orals *were* doing okay in the early years, but I'm just too severe now and nothing really works. I know I need to aggressively treat w/ IV meds.
I'm not sure how I'd pull off a move, but I'd like to know if doing this (moving to get a PICC/Hickman) from a hopeless area has led to success for anyone and I guess just the logistics of it -- like how you transferred Medicaid if you were able to get infusion services somehow covered, how you convinced an out of state doc you needed this, etc??
If this is in the wrong section, I apologize, but it's really not a "finding a doc" post so much as it is a post about how or if this ever works for anyone who can't get a PICC where they are?
Thanks!!

I wrote you a message, but your inbox is full. Please clean it out so people can give you a private answer also.
There are ways to do this, but the medicaid part is going to be an obstacle, I am guessing. No personal experience with that.

I don't see why you need to move. If you cannot get treated in-state, why not see an out-of-state doctor who can prescribe IV if needed? You should be able to get in-state home-health care for your IV line.
I live in a "Lyme does not exist here" state. There are no Lyme doctors here. I had to see an out-of-state doctor. Because of state laws, I needed to get an in-state doctor to be a liaison and I found a DO who helped.
I hope you can get this worked out soon.

I can't travel, so if I'm going to see someone more than once, I just have to get there one time and stay there. An out of state doc tried to order a PICC placed here but Mass. is so regulatory it was not possible. I spent years trying to get a local doc w/ hospital privileges to do it, but no dice. The docs here are horrible, like really wretched ducks from hell.

Note: I mean an out of state doc who used to be my doc before I moved here tried to order a PICC here, but could not due to the hospital regs. and difficulty here. The hospital here is basically run by an IDSA schmuck.
