There are really starting to get to me. Woke up at 2 last night my arms were extremely itchy. Kind of fell back asleep but then 3 am rolled around and the pain in my shoulder started.
I'm getting pretty good at staying calm, but the pain in my shoulder turned into numbness in my left leg and heaviness.
My eyes went blurry and I started to get nausea. My stomach turns into knots.
This isn't the worst attack I've had but it kept me up for a couple of hours. It's really hard to settle down after you feel like you are having a heart attack (but you know you arent).
I do take a couple otc sleeping pills to help.
Usually when I lie down and get the chest flutters as I doze off I know I'm in for a long night
Does anyone have this too?

My panic attacks in the middle of the night and when I wake up in the morning is just accompanied by my whole body trembling, sweating, heart racing and overcome by fear (no specific fear, but a fear that makes me feel helpless and afraid to face the world-would rather be dead). Its totally irrational and delusional, but my mind has no control over it in these situations. It eventually wears off and I`m fine.
I never had those panic attacks that are accompanied by chest pains and feeling like I`m having a heart attack. Never any physical pain.

- A personal question first to consider: is your sleeping partner a cell phone? If so, give it the boot as far from you as possible.
CELL PHONES, alone can trigger problems in heart rhythm. (See the Sleep link below for detail).
Magnesium comes to mind as the best helper. For panic attacks (that I think have nothing to do with our thinking but real physiological stuff . . . heart, adrenals, HPA axis stuff).
Not delusional. Not irrational. Nothing at all says that. Nothing. It's very logical, actually, in what a body dealing with lyme, et.al. faces. It MAKES SENSE.
I'm sure you've seen all that before but a few thoughts about the heart. If rhythm is off, magnesium is still the first good helper.
Liver support to help the body not be so reactive.
avoiding all MSG, glutamate / glutamine (added in any supplement), any food additives, etc.
However, something called QT syndrome -- certain meds or OTC items can mess this up. Heavy beat music, surprises / startles (even an alarm clock should be avoided by those with QT issues).
I have many links but my guess is you've seen them all. If you want more detail, just say so.
Oh, any new textiles, paints, personal care products, etc.? That stuff can do it, too. -

See post: Caution: Aspartate; Glutamine; and Phenylalanine (3 excitatory amino acids that can be wrong for us when added as supplements, beyond a normal dietary level)
Seaweed has its own natural MSG and can be very excitatory -

- Kbone,
If not (just don't) but if you are comfortable sharing the name of the "couple otc sleeping pills" -- with the link for the brand itself, that will show us the ingredient list.
maybe someone can take a look and see if all those are okay. Especially with lyme, many can can the opposite reaction to some things. And there could be some additives to consider. Dyes, "natural flavors" and such can be over stimulating, for instance.
Everything needs to be cross-referenced with "QT" - everything you take and each ingredient in everything. -

The otc sleeping pills are CVS brand, generic. It says on the bottle diphenhydramine HCI 50 mg.
I've tried natural remedies and I lie awake all night. This is the only stuff that allows me to sleep.
I've had my heart checked all is well there.
One thing I haven't had checked is my adrenals and I wonder every day. I have some weird symptoms not related to lyme. For example - my nipples are almost flesh colored now and I have a weird "fat pad" on my neck and thigh.
My left leg has had some sizeable muscle loss. I have attributed that to the Lyme but I wonder if it's the adrenals.
Also, I'm down 18 pounds coming in at 140. I eat normal and healthy. No gluten but I should try and be better about the msg and additives I suppose.
I will check out the links thanks a bunch guys.
Much love to you all, Kirsten

- I think the calculator thing is all wrong. I'm very dyslexic with numbers and even my computer probably short circuits anything to do with numbers.
I post the same thing, over and over - few of those were actually written. Everyone can tell you that. In my defense, the same questions do often come up over and over, though, just by those new to all this. But the importance of the information remains strong.
I hope it helps to know that it is real (well, actually that could send you screaming into the woods) . . . but this "unique" reality can change.
The panic attacks I had were the very worst. I knew zero about anything back then. Just zero. But a quiet, dark room did help me get through the worst of it.
You may not need your adrenals "checked" - it just goes with lyme that they are clobbered big time. Most tests are not that good. Basic adrenal support is just a "requirement" regardless. From there, your LLMD can advise.
I hope you are getting good treatment. All the support methods I mention can't do it, the infection(s) have to be addressed head-on, too.
Many say, when lyme, et.al. is treated, this all just melts away.
Good luck. Breathe. Sign songs in 3/4 time. That time signature is soothing. -

Diphenhydramine HCI 50 is Benadryl.
I second and third the suggestion of upping your Magnesium intake.
I too was plagued with nightly panic attacks, although mine tended to hit at 7pm every day.
A nightly warm (not hot) bath in 2 cups epsom salt/1 cup baking soda will help your body absorb magnesium through your skin.
Stay in no more than 20 minutes. Drink a glass of water before you get in. And another when you get out. And most importantly - make sure someone in the house knows you are in the tub. If you get dizzy, get out and call for assistance if you need it.
