Hey D,

Not saying it is one, but are you familiar with a "herx"?
https://sites.google.com/site/marylandlyme/jarisch-herxheimer-herx

Here is a partial list of side effects...

Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

severe or uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea;
fever, mouth sores;
problems with speech, balance, or walking;
severe skin rash;
nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); o
easy bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin.
Less serious side effects may include:

mild stomach pain or upset stomach;
mild diarrhea;
headache;
mild itching;
weakness; or
dizziness.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

The herx website above gives lots of suggestions for treating a herx.

Here are some more:

Here are some detox tips from Dr. H.:

Herxheimer reaction (from 2010 Lyme Conference):

Take-home message: DETOXIFY YOUR LYME PATIENTS!

It does NOT matter what antibiotic you give people, they will NOT get better without detoxification

For Herxheimer reactions: 2 Alka-Selzer Gold (no aluminum) in 8 ounces of water with lemon or lime followed by 6-8 capsules of glutathione or 1500 mg of oral liposomal glutathione.

70% will feel better in hours

On the topic of water: Dilution is the solution to pollution. This suggests that in order to help our bodies detoxify, we must drink more water

AND:

Sept, 2013:

Flare protocol in a nutshell:

Try 1st:
--Burbur, 10 drops every 10 minutes for 2-3 hours or 10 days until flare resolves
--Parsley (same as burbur)
--Lemon/lime in water sipped through straw 4x/day
--Alkaseltzer gold OTC or sodium bicarb 4x/day

If above doesn't help, add:

Oral glutathione (Essential Pro) 6-8 caps at once, repeat as needed, up to 3x/day

If no help w/above steps, try:
--Pekana drainage 15 drops of each bottle 3x/day
--Sydetox 15 drops 2x/day
--LDN, as prescribed at bedtime

My lyme doctor told me to eat fresh lemons squeezed into water. He wanted me to eat 4 lemons per day. I only got up to 2 per day. He said that lemons are a natural cleanser of the body.

People are amazed at how well lemon water works. I made it my only drink during my lyme treatment.

That and the Alka Seltzer Gold should help her.

In my opinion,if the fever continues after the malarone is stopped then it means that Babesia is still present and has not been treated long enough. Increased nausea was also one of hubby's symptoms that indicated that Babesia was still an issue.

In my opinion the dose of malarone probably needs to be increased to be effective. However, with any Babesia treatment a minimum of 4 months of babs meds is needed to prevent relapse.
