So after 4 years of progressively worsening and an inability to afford IV antibiotics, I am finally able to try IM Rocephin shots (allergic to penicillin so I can't try Bicillin). I will be on actigall as well and doing frequent liver function tests. My heart block is worsening so I'm very grateful to try this. Even though I have a pacemaker, I'd rather not end up pacing from my ventricle for large amounts of time if it can be prevented.
1. It was surprisingly easy to get Rocephin covered. Is that typical? They cover the medication but not the syringes, needles, sterile water, etc. Do they usually stop covering it? Have a time limit?
2. Just in case I something doesn't work out, where would be a low cost place to purchase the vials out of pocket?
3. In comparison to magnesium sulfate injections, how painful is this going to be?

I have purchased Ceftriaxone (generic of Rocephin) which is what I think most people use - from Infuserve. Are you going to be getting the vials and mix it yourself? The IM injections can be painful - so I think most folks use Lidocaine to mix with. Check about heart issues and Lidocaine. IIRC 1 gram vial of Cef. from Infuserve about $5.00.

Mine was covered until my Dr. wanted to change up protocols. As soon as they saw that it was a different medicine he wanted to try, they stopped and reviewed the case. Stopped payment on everything.
It's like they didn't know they were covering it, then the change triggered someone to look at it.

I did it. My neuropathy must be worse than I thought because I had pretty much no pain and mine was mixed with sterile water (no lidocaine).
I did have a BP drop right after.....however I think it was a coincidence. I'm having a simultaneous allergic issue but that started prior to the shot (sneezing, itchy eyes, etc.). Maybe it's partially herxing too it happened after trying salt/C the other day.

You are brave.
I did not think the injections hurt while giving them - with Lido - but hurt for hours/days later.
I think Apotec brand was the worst. The injection area was sore for days. I tried different sites. V and G Gluts. Thighs. The thighs were the worst. For days afterwards it felt like someone had shot me in the thighs with a high powered bow and arrow.
Bedford the least pain afterwards.
Hospira brand not as bad as Apotec.
For me at least.
How do you feel hours later - at the site?
FWIW I did not think the Bicillin injections were all that painful. Thicker but no sting/burn.
