Can anyone tell me if rifampin can cause you to be weepy and very emotional and overly sensitive? Thanks.

Just found some old posts saying it can cause emotional issues. Just don't know if it's worth staying on it. I don't see dr for another month and I just don't like how all over emotional I feel. Thinking if I remember to take my magnesium it will help. Thanks.

I would think it could. It gets into the brain really well.
Go easy on it.
Magnesium helps everything!

Bartonella can make you nuts like that too. Likely you are killing Bart and it's making you a little extra emotional.
Bart has brought me to the edge in the past and it probably will again in the future. Right now I'm using A-bart which helps a little but I'm gonna need to hit it hard again at some point in the future.
Before you give it up, take magnesium and give it some more time. As long as your liver is handling it ok, Rifampin is definitely killing stuff.
Don't underestimate Bartonella. It seems to be the most resilient and most crazy making of all the infections.

Bartonella a bad one. I am sure it's what is acting up now. It's makes emotions run high, causes alot of anxiety.
Magnesium helps a little, but not as much I would like.
Rifampin, made me crazy. I had to stop taking it.

Rifampin made me nuts too. It turns out my body can't process the stuff. It really messed me up.
I got a pain in a my knee that I never had before and it still comes and goes. It's been over a YEAR since I stopped the rifampin (obviously not a herx).

I have been crying since I started treatment 4 months ago. I am not a crier at all? I don't recognize myself. I started so many things at the same time I don't know what has caused what. I am also insanely sensitive. I get my feelings hurt for no reason. That is not me either. My suggestion is to detox and maybe take a antibiotic break after asking your doc. Mine said to take 7 days off antibiotics but, stay on everything else. It worked but, within hours of starting back I was crying again.

Thanks for all your comments. Very interesting how we are affected. Hard to tell if anxiety off this is worse than being on it. Plus I also have those moments where those around me are getting "a piece of my mind" that surprises me when I'm done my rant. Will work on the detoxing.

Yes, a bartonella herx made me lose my mind there for a while until I ramped up detox methods.
Bartonella is a real devil to treat and get rid of.
Rifampin really really helped me, but it was rocky at first.
Also, rifampin, lyme, bartonella can affect the adrenals.
When you see your doc, it may be worthwhile to having hormones tested to see if yours are out of whack. Mine were.
Sorry you are going thru this. It was worthwhile the first time treating bartonella for me to begin antidepressant pills.
If they help you through the worst of it, they are worth it.

Sorry, also wanted to add there are some folks in my support group and on here who are beating bartonella with a herbal regimen ala Buhner.

Rifampin is tough. My kids couldn't tolerate it or its cousin rifabutin. There are other options.
