Turns out I have the CBS mutation, which Dr. Klinghardt says 90 percent of us have.

As most of you know, this means I can't tolerate sulfur or process ammonia either (probably the cause of my bad UTI after a couple baths).

So, no more epsom salt baths, which are sulfur. Is that correct? Can we not take epsom salt baths?

If not, what do you put in your bath as an alternative to help detox?

And no more NAC supplement, from my understanding.

I know chewing on yucca plants will help. And other supplements I have hear mentioned.

My other question is, if I supplement properly can I go back to epsom salt baths, foods with sulfur?

Anything you can offer would be helpful.

Thank you,
Susan

Also, if you have this, how much do you limit cruciferous vegetables and eggs?

I have the mutation but I don't let that limit me. Trial and error showed me what I could handle. We are all different and the only way to know for sure is to try something.

I can tolerate 1 maybe 2 NAC a day, more than that makes me feel bad. I can also tolerate ALA which is good for chelation, and also glutathione.

I also eat cruciferous veggies, onions and garlic. I cannot eat broccoli soup though, but I can eat broccoli. Something in the cooking water, maybe it gets more intense, not sure.

I think if you supplement properly you will be able to take in more sulfur foods/supplements. Keep a journal of things so you will be able to tell what works for you. It's better to get something than nothing.

You could try supplementation then maybe a mild epsom salt bath, perhaps less salt than you would normally use. The only way to know is to try it. I'm not a bath person, but you could also try clay, baking soda, or ACV.

Thanks, Catgirl.

I just made a new batch of liposomal glutathione / Vit C.

I guess the glutathione is out, too, correct?

You're welcome!

I take glut all the time (no worries). Go ahead and try it. I take all that stuff (above).

Okay!

I think I'll back off for a while.

I'm mostly curious to see if it will make a difference and make me feel any better.

At my age, I seem to be ultra sensitive to everything.

I forgot to mention, maybe the reason I can eat and tolerate so many things high in sulfur is because I'm vegan. Meat is high in sulfur, dairy too.

Maybe the issue is just too much sulfur, and if you eat to much you will feel worse. We are all so different, the only way to know is to try.

I have a CBS mutation also, but seem to have always done ok with Epsom salts baths as long as I don't stay in long (10-15 min. max) and don't use a lot.

Nutrition support for sulfite processing can be helpful for those with CBS and/or SUOX mutations. Molybdenum is the most important mineral to supplement, but Zinc, Magnesium, Iron and Vitamin B12 are also very important.

I find baths with magnesium chloride salt flakes suit me better than Epson salts (magnesium sulphate).

Thanks, ukcarry. That's a great idea.

And thanks for the links Razzle.

I'm also wrestling with yuca. It can soak up sulfur but is so high in starch, which turns to sugar as soon as it hits the system.

What to do? Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Susan

Well, it doesn't take much yucca root to make a difference. Yasko says a "sprinkle" on protein foods - I was only using 1/8 teaspoon once a day...

Razzle, so you bought it in supplement form or powder instead of raw?

Thanks,

I didn't read everyone else's reply. But for sulfur issues, molybdenum was huge for me. Also, since treatment for MTHFR and parasites, I don't really have issues with sulfur anymore!! (Parasites hate sulfur.) Sulfur was always a HUGE issue for me, but not anymore.

Best to you.
