We aren't sure if he has Lyme, but since it's thought to be sexually transmitted and I have it, it would make sense. Has anyone else run across this? Could it be a parasite or co-infection? Could it be dietary (he does like his coffee so I'm thinking of asking him to trial off it)? It's not restless legs, because it's happening throughout his whole body and seems more likely to happen in his upper body (particularly chest area).

. Hi, Muscle jerking during certain phases of sleep is very common in a lot of people.
But I've read in the past that it could be an underlying disease - diabetes, iron deficiency, sleep apnea, spinal injury, or uremia.
It's caused by nerves traveling from the brain through our body.
I've had this problem myself for many years.
Could it be Lyme, yes, or it could just be normal for your husband.
I would tell your husband to discuss this with his doctor. (Myself)> It doesn’t cause me to be tired or fatigued during the day, so I don't take any meds for this symptom.
This twitching & jerking can cause your partner to get less sleep than the one doing it - I'm sure you know that!!!!!
