I am in my second long term remission and life is good. I want to STAY here, hence my question.

I was in for my physical last week and since I refuse the flu shot, the shingles shot, and anything else she was wanting to throw at me, she got bordering on angry and told me I had to sign all these papers saying I'm refusing them.

I did and don't feel badly about it at all. But my question is, is this a process we should go through for the rest of our lives or is it just while treating the Lyme.

I'm paranoid since my beginning symptoms came on after I got a thyphoid shot to travel to Asia. Yes, it could have been coincidence, but my LLMD doesn't think so.

For those of you that are also refusing these shots...if your doctor doesn't believe in lyme anyway, what are you saying is your reasoning especially after you are healed and doing well now?

Just because doctors, media and public calls those who are in tune with their body and educated about key facts regarding vaccines "paranoid" please don't crush yourself with that label.

And this is not (just) about during lyme.

You ask for those who are (ill or) well who decline vaccines, "what are you saying is your reasoning"?

Why give any reasons. Just say "no" if that is what you have determined. Or just say something like "I've studied the ingredients and the issues regarding my body - and I decline." "Decline" is a good term here and less loaded than "refuse" or "reject".

To feel compelled to give a reason just puts the patient on the defensive. Still, in that links set above are some pages on vaccine ingredients. Something like that might be simple and could simply be presented as your reasoning.

There may be a couple key vaccines to consider such as tetanus if prone to getting scrapes out in the dirt, though I'd still try to do in advance research to find one without all the crappy additives.

For children, it gets more difficult as which ones to possibly consider (polio, etc.), laws, and how to find "safe" ingredients or when it's just not the right time at all if they are very ill with lyme. Most LLMDs who treat children can better address such questions.

But, as for adults, it still seems that every time one turns around in a medical office, vaccines are being pushed. Sigh.

About SIGNING something, that can get tricky if on that page they list things that are not in line with your own research and make it read like you are refusing to participate in some kind of effort for your health. That could come back to bite you with insurance coverages, etc.

and some doctors - or their clinics - refuse to see patients who don't "do" the flu shots, etc.

I don't know if you type out a statement that reads true to what you'd want it to say and sign it if that could just be used for your "opt out" it may be.

Thank you Keebler. I know that while I was seeing my LLMD during all those years of treatment, he said to not do any due to our systems being compromised.

I just got use to saying "no" and never thought about it. Not until this last appointment when I'm now told I can't say no without signing all these papers.

I guess it just made me feel more uneasy. I was only following orders from my LLMD but I guess that now that I'm not under his care other than for maintenance, I didn't know how some of you all handle this situation.

And yes, the tetanus is one that Dr. R said that I needed to get various ingredients out of it and my last PCP had said they didn't have that, so I just never got it.

With the new PCP in the office, she just seemed irritated that I wouldn't take ANY of them.

How does one go about getting a tetanus that doesn't have all the extra ingredients?

So far I've been able to get away with just a "NO" when they ask if I want a shot or have I had a flu shot in the past "X" years.

My PCP does NOT really believe in the flu shots, so I'm good there.

It's all my specialists (pushed by their affliate hospital) that keep asking.

I know nothing about alternative shots for any vaccines. I pray I never have to know.
