Would be intersted in your thoughts about these.

Dr just prescribed cholestyramine, and just took the first dose a couple of hours ago, but am now beaking out in hives. Shoot.

Does the Welchol work as well? Side effects?

Am very EMf sensitive so can't do a lengthy search.

Thanks.

From p. 13 of Burrascano:

"Two prescription medications that can bind these toxins include cholestyramine resin and Welchol pills. When taken orally in generous amounts, the neurotoxin present in the intestinal tract binds to the resin, is trapped, and then excreted. Thus, over several weeks, the level of neurotoxin is depleted and clinical improvement can be seen. Current experience is that improvement is first seen in three weeks, and treatment can continue for a month or more. Retreatment is always possible.

These medications may bind not only toxins but also many drugs and vitamin supplements. Therefore no other oral medications or supplements should be taken from a half hour before, to two hours after a dose of one of these fiber agents.

Cholestyramine should be taken two to four times daily, and Welchol is prescribed at three pills twice daily. While the latter is obviously much simpler to use, it is less effective than cholestyramine. The main side effects are bloating and constipation, best handled with increased fluid intake and gentle laxatives."

Make sure you heed the warning about constipation as a side effect. It is bad! Start taking laxatives when you start these meds. One person on this board ended up in the ER due to constipation.

My hubby took Welchol one day and stopped due to the constipation. Don't underestimate it.

Linky, I'm so sorry to hear this!!

If you are trying to detox, might I suggest Living Clay? (Amazon)

I hated Welchol ever bit as much as I hated CSM!

Here is info for you, linky:

I take 2 or 3 Welchol tablets per day in one sitting at night, not as per Dr S, but to bind the bile that pools in my stomach (and leads to reflux).

In UK it is hard to get Cholestyramine without sugar or aspartame, neither of which I am prepared to have.

I can't comment on the overall success of the Dr S protocol, but can say that Welchol has been tolerable for me at the above dosage, taken well away from meds or supplements.
