I started 1/2 dose of Rifampin two days ago. This morning I took a whole dose of 150 mg. About an hour later I started getting stabbing pains in my liver area. This lasted about 5 hours. I am also taking fluconazole and Ceftin. I was allergic to doxycycline and nystatin. Should I stop taking the Rifampin? I also have one MTFHR mutation.

Dr. M, the Bartonella expert, says liver symptoms while on Rifampin could just be die-off reactions from Bart in the liver. He even says that elevated liver enzymes are usually no cause for stopping protocol. I haven't heard him talk about pain in the liver, however.

Sick since at least age 6, now 67. Decades of misdiagnosis. Numerous arthritic, neuro, psych, vision, cardiac symptoms. Been treating for 7 years, incl 8 mos on IV. Bart was missed so now treating that.

I've heard rifampin can interact with diflucan. You might want to double-check with your pharmacist and your doctor.

The pharmacist said it was ok to take Rifampin and diflucan. The Rifampin would just make the diflucan less effective she said. I checked with my doctor before starting the Rifampin, and the nurse said it was ok to take both. I don't think they ever read my chart or listen fully to my messages when I call, however. This is an LLMD.

Ive had these stabbing liver sensations for years. My liver enzymes have been up since May.

Lots of ABX the liver doesn't like.
