There was a press release that came out today talking about the use of IV Ketamine in the treatment of chronic lyme. It sounded interesting; it's gotten some good results in chronic nerve pain syndromes.

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/cbs-news-features-dr-ashraf-hanna-discussing-how-iv-ketamine-is-successfully-treating-lyme-disease-300223797.html

It can also be really dangerous.

But I remembered something I'd read about its use in fibromyalgia, and that reminded me of something I read a long time ago that seems to help FM people with their pain and sometimes have people feel they've gone into remission.

This won't kill any bugs but there's some possibility of symptomatic relief. Point is, if you think IV Ketamine might work for you then this might, as well --

Pausing here to bring you an important announcement....

Somewhere, J, you told me blood sugar and headaches. Been thinking about it and it is very possible that is the cause. Thanks! (Don't know what post it was on, so please excuse the side track here.)

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled program....

OK. And it just hit me, couldn't think of it earlier...

The cough syrup- was it guaifenesin? I tried it, but no help for me. Maybe others would have luck with it?

Thread: Stevia.

Guafenesin, right.

It's got a big fan base with fibromyalgia people. I have some in my stash but in my case too it's just cough syrup [Smile]

I was just referred ketamine therapy at a new pain management clinic located 2 hours away. Ketamine is a powerful sedative, used in hospitals and most recently for depression. Clinical trials have shown positive outcomes for pain also.

My treatment would consist of 4 IV infusions over a 1 week period. Follow-up with 2 more IV infusions within the 1st month, then 1 IV infusion per month for maintenance thereafter. Each infusion cost 500.00, or a special rate of 4 infusions for 1,800.00. Not insurance covered. OUCH!!!!!!!!

Ketamine is also known as special K or a date rape drug. So there is a stigma attached to this drug. Mainstream medical professionals will tell you to stay away from this drug. But yet they won't treat a Lyme patient for our pain issues and instead choose to pass us off to someone else to deal with us. Lyme patients deal with PAIN everyday.

Side note, as with any med, there is always the chance of abuse. But committed by police officers and EMT's? What a scary and frightening thought. . .

Police officers love the use of ketamine on unruly arrestees. This is happening throughout our country, not just Minneapolis.
