I don't think it will do anything for Lyme. Some people take guinefisin (sp) that is in Mucinex to help with their fibromyalgia. HOWEVER, they have to completely avoid salicylates in foods and skin care in order for that to work.
I take it when I have congestion because I cannot take regular decongestants.

I'm having a senior lyme day. so please forgive me.
but lyme is fibro right? I know it probably would help with breathing but I can't make the connection to either one.
muscle pain, joint pain???? how???

Fibromyalgia is very often really lyme, TBD or other stealth infection such as mycoplasma, chlamydia pneumonia, etc.
Fibromyalgia is a symptom, it should never be settled on as a diagnosis. -

- I have felt much less body pain when taking mucinex in past years. There are some reasons for that - guifensn. is an expectorant and any expectorant will help pull inflammation out of tissues -
- though it's not going to address the cause, it can help with muscle pain relief - partly due to the pulling of water out of the body, reducing inflammation. But it wrecked my stomach badly.
But there are many formulations of mucinex, some with ingredients & additives that can make symptoms worse, especially grogginess, vertigo, etc. Be wary of the one with decongestant added.
You can buy straight guifenensin (sp?), too, without additives (hopefully) . . . but it's never to be used for anyone who has an ulcer or irritated lining to their stomach or colon (and I think you've report severe trouble with all that).
Before I was dx with lyme, I was to be in a fibro study w/ guifensn. at my local med. college and they dropped me as soon as they found out my ulcer history. And then I understood why my stomach never tolerated it.
Liver support & magnesium came to work better for me. Drinking water, too.
There are other ways to help reduce inflammation and support comfort. -

Fenugreek seed does the same thing as guaifenesin, without the restrictions on salicylates and without the damaging effects on the gut.
