I saw my immunologist today.
We discussed my immune deficiency ie CVID.
Whether or not I wanted IVIG.
How many infections do I get? etc?

I mentioned the "phenomenon" that folks with Lyme and other disorders - like CFS report. Not getting colds/flu like they used to.

I have noticed that with myself - knock wood.

Pre-Lyme I would get all kinds of infections - colds, flu, sinus, bronchial etc.

I don't think I've had a cold or flu in years.
Even with having an immune deficiency.
When first Dx'd with Lyme I would get bacterial infections.

Oddly enough - just realized - the worst around the time I started treating Lyme and was taking lots of antibiotics. For Lyme and resp. infections.

I have slacked off treatment past years - gave up, basically - and have had less infections.

I really like this immuno - feel like I can ask him anything - and he won't laugh.

In the discussion do I want IVIG or not - made me stop and think. And ask him - is it possible to have an infection ie Lyme which makes the body not get other infections?

He said - yes - interferon. Of course I have heard of interferon injections - but know nothing about interferon naturally occurring in the body and what it does.

I had heard years ago - in general - if the body is fighting one infection- one can't get another infection.
That is too simply put - my wording of it. But there is something to that I think.

Sorry - rambling as usual - very tired.

Thoughts?

Maybe you can just leave things as they are?

So we actually make interferon? I think I've run out of mine!

That crossed my mind - for sure.

No idea about the body and Interferon.

Interesting though. Will research.

Others have thoughts about this? Know anything?

I have wondered about this as well. I hardly ever catch the viruses circulating around, but since treating very aggressively this fall and winter with IV and oral ABX, I have caught two viruses.

I will have to look up interferon in the human body and see if I can learn more about this.
