So, I've been doing OK lately, hitting the bugs harder has led to more ups and downs, though. A couple of weekends ago I pushed myself to take a 3-day wilderness medicine class, and there were students in the class with obvious upper respiratory symptoms.

(I was also sleeping away from home in an old summer camp, with unknown cleanliness and/or mold...and was pretty much miserable the whole time with migraine nd fatigue.)

All this to say, about a week ago (a few days after getting back from the class), I developed a sore throat. It has been getting worse over the last week, and I now have what feels to be a really horrible cold or flu (no fever).

I went to urgent care, walked out with a script for Augmentin (so easy to get antibiotics for anything other than Lyme!), which I will give a try after talking to my LLMD.

But, I've read that abx really only help in 1 out of 15 sinus infections/upper respiratory infections, because most of them are actually viral.

I figure taking the Augmentin won't hurt given I *do* have bacterial infections as well, but I'm wondering what I can do to beat back viruses, and give my immune system all the support it can get?

Also, I know sometimes bart can present with a sore throat - for those of you with sore throat from Bartonella, what does it feel like? I can barely swallow and I've lost my voice - is that typical? I do have Bartonella, but haven't had this severe a sore throat since I had strep and mono together back in 2013.

OK, sorry that was so much info at once. Please send along ideas for viral support and for sore throats!

I had a severe sore throat last week, followed by a cough, achy bones and muscles. But I did have a fever. I went to an urgent care center over the weekend. The doc did a nasal culture for the Asian flu and it came back positive.

Because my throat was so sore and (felt) swollen he also did a strep test, which came back negative. The doc prescribed Tamiflu to help prevent the virus from replicating. He also prescribed some for my husband as a preventative measure. I just took my last dose yesterday.

It has been difficult, but I finally feel like I am on the mend now. L-Lysine and Vitamin C might help to fight your viral load. Small doses of local honey have been very soothing to my throat as well. Rest and plenty of liquids and chicken soup too! I hope you feel better soon.

What I would do:
Roxalia for a sore throat by Boiron. It's in almost every health food store. There are things in there specific for laryngitis, difficulty swallowing d/t throat pain and swollen lymph.

For the flu feeling- Oscillococcinum (homeopathic for the flu)

or if feeling toxic and flu like - homeopathic Baptisia tinct 30c(Wild Indigo herb).

If my bones hurt I would add homeopathic Eupatorium perf.30c(Bone Set herb), too.
(from health food store)

OR

for the above (flu) paragraph one can buy this:

Hyland's DEFEND Severe Cold & Flu

http://www.hylands.com/products/hylands-defendtm-severe-cold-flu

It has the Eup. perf and Oscillo in it combined.

Gargle with salt warm salt water.
Remember Vit D and C.

Hope you feel better soon!
