Hi everyone, I got back my Igenex test and it was negative, but I tested positive on the Quest Western blot. Usually it's the other way around, positive on Igenex, but negative on Quest or Labcorps' Western blot. What do I believe?

Results:
Quest
IgG 41 reactive
IgM 23 reactive

Igenex:
IgM 18 positive
IgM 31 positive
IgM 34 indeterminate
IgM 41 indeterminate
IgG 41 positive

Sometimes having blood drawn even hours apart, or even just the difference between samples can affect the results.

If you have a positive 41 band, and you do... and one other positive band that is "specific for Borrelia burgdorferi (you have three), it is considered to be a positive.

Info on YOUR bands is below.

Band 41- flagellin protein of all spirochetes. This is usually the first to appear after a Bb infection and is specific for all Borrellia. Can be positive due to relapsing fever, oral spirochetes and syphilis. Flagella or tail protein. Flagella is used to move Borrelia burgdorferi from point to point. Many bacteria have flagella. This is the most common borreliosis antibody.

Band 23-25 outer surface protein C (OspC), specific for Bb. Can be an early band.

Band 18- flagellin fragment (Lyme)

Band 31- OspA, specific for Bb (Lyme).

Band 34- outer surface protein B (OspB); specific for Bb (Lyme).

Thank you! What I thought!

I wonder why Igenex called my test negative? They don't consider IgM band 18 a Lyme band?

I don't know... Dr C of MO considers it to be significant:

"In my clinical experience, if a patient has symptoms suspicious for borreliosis, and has one or more of the following bands, there is a very high probability the patient has borreliosis.

These bands are 18, 22, 23-25, 28, 30, 31, 34, 37, 39, 41, 83, and 93.

[---- from DR C's update from 2005 ---
----The significant antibodies, in my opinion, are the 18, 23-25, 28, 30, 31, 34, 39, 58, 66 and 93.----] "

On all tests, even Igenex, the overall positive or negative is by the CDC criteria.

It's clearly positive but they cannot call it that as the final determination is within the boundaries of the CDC criteria - which is just way out of bounds.
