Has anyone ever tried hollistic medicine (diet, supplements, etc.) either on it's own or together with antibiotics?
I would love more information about this. I have an appointment in a couple of months with a good LLMD (very happy about this). I'm not against antibiotics at all, but would like to know of other things people have tired that have or haven't worked for them.

- Start here to understand the basics and why certain doses of certain Rx are important. Note the potential failure to under treating while, at the same time, the importance of support methods along with direct treatment.
If you go a different route, the basics MUST be adequate to achieve direct goals. Just support methods will not be adequate.
Advanced Topics in Lyme Disease (Diagnostic Hints and Treatment Guidelines for Lyme and Other Tick Borne Illnesses
Dr. Burrascano's Treatment Guidelines (2008) - 37 pages

Page 32 - in the Physical Therapy section,
Then, read all books here by about a half dozen LL authors, both LLMD and LL herbalists so that you have a better overview of options / methods.
When considering herbal / nutritional / adjunct methods, because lyme is so very complex & unique, as are possible coinfections:
if at all possible - because each person & each case is different - it's best to consult with an ILADS-educated LL ND (lyme literate naturopathic doctor) (or similar) who has completed four years of post-graduate medical education in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine -
- and someone who is current with ILADS' research & presentations, past and present, and has completed the ILADS Physician Training Program (see: www.ilads.org )
so they really know all they can about the science of lyme . . . how lyme (& other TBD) act and what we can do about that in various ways. Proper ASSESSMENT of not just lyme but coinfectoins is vital. Someone trained by ILADS is best to assess.
Many LL NDs incorporate antibiotics (depending upon the licensing laws in their state). Some LLMDs and LL NDs have good working relationships.
When possible, it's great to have both a LLMD and LL ND and even better when they have a long-standing professional relationship.
For those considering complementary support methods / or other avenues entirely:
Herbal Safety considerations & reference books; etc.
BOOKS - Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:
knowing which methods offer assertive & direct impact, which are only support and which are both. And when to use what, how to combine, & when to step back.
You can compare and contrast many approaches with links to articles, books, methods . . .
BODY WORK methods / links (and why anyone who works on your spine MUST be LL to the degree they at least know to never suddenly twist neck or spine. Never. Ever - not if there is inflammation in the spine with active infection. And that we should never be advised to do neck / head / shoulder stands.)
Links here to two major sources: Buhner, & Zhang. Be sure to get their books.

Many many discussions here on alternative therapies. You might want to use our "search" function to read topics that have been discussed over the years.
The search feature is right up there by "my profile" and "directory."

Some people are allergic to antibiotics, including me to most of them, so we have to take other approaches.
Many do the Buhner herbs for treatment - there are facebook groups and yahoo groups.
Plus Lyme is multi-systemic, so we need comprehensive care. I suggest you study the above links and do some searches as well.
We're all different, so it's a matter of what you need and what you respond well to.

Hi Amy- It was my experience that my lyme and cos were so fast moving- first doc told me I was very close to the pole- meaning IV pole. I was put on pulse abx treatment with supplements for 2 years and I read that pulse treating coinfections is not advised at least at first and that is when I got into see Dr. H in NY.
I was having really bad bartonella and babesia at that time as well as Lyme and Dr H's approach - with IM Bicillin- got me to a place where I was able to get to Germany for photons. Prior to this, I'd keep relapsing.
I'm now on herbs, use rife -and have begun mhbot.
My advice if you can get with a doc that uses a Burrascano protocol so that you can get the immune system back on top- then move to more holistic means. But as Robin said - some cannot do abx.
I think quite frankly my case was so fast moving had I not gone the abx route, I may not be here. I think it all depends on the patient.
I am for getting well and over lyme and gosh knows I've thrown about everything at it to get back to best. I'm a whole lot better than I ever was but I still have a bit to go -the means I'm using now, I'm hopeful will .
I am a holistic minded person but my bugs were very aggressive. I got to ap lace where I could barely walk. Dr. H saved me from that. I am profoundly grateful and for his receptivity to holistic options.
The holistic now seems to be keeping me able to run two companies- but I know my best and I'm just not there yet. Do let us know how we can help.
A good LLMD to me will be open and mindful to what will best serve you at your current juncture. One thing I learned early on is good medical care with lyme saves you money longterm. Experience in my case made all the difference! Godspeed! You will get better!

Thank you for sharing your story, willbeatthis! It is encouraging.
I don't even have a diagnosis from a doctor yet, but see a LLMD in a couple of months. My story is like a lot of stories I've read (seen a lot of doctors, had different diagnoses, etc.).
When I filled out the forms the doctor sent I was shocked (and encouraged and worried) that all my symptoms were listed!
And my illness is not as fast-paced as yours. I've been sick 10 years already. I want to be ready for my appointment with the LLMD and know what kind of options are available.
I am very thankful for this forum!
