What do we know about southern tick-associated rash illness (STARI)?
Just read a new scientist article on a new test being developed for Lyme. They claim 'There is no diagnostic test for STARI." But this new one catches "Lyme disease and STARI with an accuracy of 85 and 92 per cent, respectively. "
Wouldn't STARI just be a different strain of borellia? And how would this test help those of us who might have one of the many different strains?

Politics, blah blah blah... that aside...
The CDC fought Dr. Masters (brutally) over his discovery of STARI (basically the CDC/IDSA didn't find it so it doesn't exist).
Once he passed away the ball was dropped by our government medical researchers and to this day the CDC and IDSA have done little to nothing about it.
Basically they admit it might exist and kind of is like Lyme, but, wait for it, wait for it...
They say they don't know what causes STARI. "Cause unknown". And they still (falsely) insist that Lyme can not be transmitted by a lonestar tick.
I know- how stupid can they be? Right? Anyhow...
If they don't find out what causes STARI (the organism)- and they aren't even looking as far as I can tell- it would impossible to develop serologic tests for it.
It is like with B. burgdorferi and them insisting there is no such thing as "chronic Lyme disease". We are dealing with evil idiots with a wicked agenda and financial concerns who don't want to be sued for all the damage they've done.
I am sorry I am not able to review the new test at the link you've provided right now. (Tired.)
But, if I can suggest, you might want to find a lab that will check for multiple strains of Borrelia. And please remember..
Of the patients with Lyme, 74.5% are missed using the current Lyme tests. Additionally, there are over 100 known strains of Lyme in the USA, and there are no accurate tests for any of them.
The only lab I know (off the top of my head) that may still do STARI tests (even though CDC claims they don't know what causes STARI) is MDL.
Last time I checked they were running tests for two additional strains- Borrelia garinii and Borrelia afzelii.

I know my LLMD who was mentored by Dr Masters told me that at least the CDC admitted that antibiotics would work for STARI. How they came to that conclusion I don't know.
