I sleep all night (multiple sleep studies found no probs), but I am the walking dead during the daytime.

Profound exhaustion (and pain)....Until about 8pm, at which point I almost become myself again. It is the only productive time I have each day.

Any ideas about what could be going on?...how to test...how to treat?

Much appreciated!

10+ yrs of abx (oral and IV)
currently off abx for 2 yrs
on Rx adivan, lexapro, pain meds.
resveratrol, nicotinamide riboside, and other suplmts

1. Be certain you have excellent assertive & direct treatment for lyme & other tick borne disease / chronic stealth infections.

Quite frankly, though, it is just not even reasonable to expect to have normal energy when ill with lyme / TBD. It's just not. Sorry. Be kind and gentle about this as much as possible. Still, what can help WHILE INFECTION IS BEING TREATED:

2. Liver support

Liver stress with lyme can affect sleep and energy.

LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too.

3. Adrenal support

Lyme not only "flips" immune function but also "flips" adrenal hormones. It takes all the disciple possible to not go with a surge at night if that's the only energy relief we experience but, I know all too well, it's a slippery slope.

4. sleep "hygiene" - especially re: light into eyes in evening.

Adrenal issues when cortisol / adrenal hormones kick in when they should be calming down. very common with lyme. More detail:

Probably should be #2.

Excitotoxins; MSG; Aspartame; & "Natural" Flavors (that are not likely natural at all).

I wouldn't say I become myself at night, but I definitely experience the same. Nights are better, always have been for me.

I have high cortisol, so maybe that's when it gets down in a more normal range? I'm not sure really.

Same here - I think it's cortisol.

So is it just high cortisol, or is it also HPA involvement, as in hypothalamus/pituitary/adrenal misconnections?

Nights are better for me too! So weird.

I had my cortisol checked right before I started lyme treatment. Everything was in the relatively normal areas.

I'm thinking it's more complex than just cortisol. HPA involvement is my guess, which to me is a more daunting thing to fix.

Sounds like your adrenals are out of whack. That's the official, medical term. [Big Grin]

Sometimes it takes reducing the infection to heal the adrenals. In the meantime, adrenal support strategies (there are some good books and good websites on this) seemed to help me some. You do want to "exercise" but keep it within the limits of what your stamina can handle.

I didn't start getting tired at night until the infection was gone. It was such a weird feeling because I had Lyme most of my life, so I was always a night owl and not a morning person. Now I'm the first one up, awake, and wondering why everyone else is sleeping.

I have had repeat salivary tests throughout day that shows cortisol very low in morning and high at night. I also feel best by far at night. I have a terrible time not working when I finally am not exhausted beyond words.

I had a saliva test done once that showed my adrenals were off- was getting too much cortisol while asleep and then none all day until late.

that was about a year ago I think?

I did all kinds of things as per my functinal medecine dr, but nothing seemed to help as much as what I am taking now.

GAIA Adrenal Health Jump Start.

I was taking the Gaia regular ADrenal Health prior to that for a very long time and it just wasn't doing al it could for me, but I

didn't know about the JUMP START! so now I have been taking that for a month. you take just 2 each morning, then it says after 6-8 weeks on that to

transitino to the regular one.

I have wayyyyy more energy! and I can clean my house again after years of being unable to! I feel like a new person.

BUT....
I also have been going to a superb chiropractor who has really helped me during this same period, so it may be a combination?

I should add that prior to taking this supplement I was pretty much on the couch all day and was (un)happy just getting one small task done each day.

so I have really come far

I was "wired and tired" and had severe insomnia. I was like a zombie during the day but couldn't sleep at all at night. My LLDO checked my adrenals and they were all out of wack. I'm happy to say that after 7 months of treating cortisol levels and DHEA levels, my energy has "flip-flopped" to more appropriate levels.

I am now jumping out of bed at 6AM and full of energy until about 6pm. Keeping a consistent sleep schedule has helped me tremendously.
