Hi all,
DNRS has been around for several years, and last year my LLMD recommended it.

I've been treated for Lyme and coinfections for several years, but am not recovered. My LLMD has participated in the DNRS interactive seminar and highly recommends it for people who have not recovered after treatment with an LLMD.

The idea is that once the infections are cleared, the limbic system may still be stuck in a protective (disabling) cycle. The exercises in DNRS can be done at home and take six months, one hour per day. The owner of the company claims that (some? many? a few?) people experience full recoveries, especially with MCS.

Editing to clarify: Hopper's program is partially based on Doidge's research on neuroplasticity. Hopper, the owner of the company does not claim that our illness is all in our head. Quite the contrary, she believes that longterm insult to the brain from infection, bacteria, virus, stress, toxins, etc., actually forces our brain to get stuck in a fight or flight mode, leading to new neural pathway connections that can be unhealthy to our body. I am explaining it poorly, so the best thing to do is check out her video.

I am in no way advocating for or advertising her product. I am curious about it, and willing to approach it with an open mind.

Has anyone tried Hopper's DNRS?

Please respond only if you or someone you know has actually tried the program. Thanks so much.

I knew someone who spent thousands of dollars on that training with the very founder herself - a week long camp of sorts - and came back and told me my seizures, hyperacusis and vertigo were all in my mind and just didn't want to face that. So I have a bad experience, 3rd hand with that.

She also announced that she could not hear any negative words at all. When I tipped over when she was here to lunch she shot me a look of sheer disgust and told me that I'm just fine. My lack of balance was "negative" and she made that well known. My very existence seemed to then be "negative" to her so I had to just severe ties.

[I do have a hole in an ear bone canal so, in addition to under-treated various TBI, there is a physical reason for much of this it's not that I'm slacking off.]

Now, there are some good things about positive thinking and visualization but I would first suggest seeing a top notch LL psychologist who is also trained in medical hypnosis for attaining skills on how to relax and retrain your thinking / self-talk.

Neurofeedback, too, might be of help but if there is still the infection issue underlying, more than 3 sessions will be a waste of money.

I went way past that before I realized a diseased brain just can't repair if the disease is not addressed first (as the neurofeedback doctor had been telling me for a long time. I say 3 appointment, though, as it could be helpful in teaching some neuro-relaxation skills as a management tool.

I would first look to other methods. Look to other infections to consider like mycoplasma, Cpn, etc.

and just because this particular LLMD's treatment has not been successful - that does not mean it's all in your head. It means his treatment is not as wide-ranging as it should perhaps have been even for lyme, itself and also for other possible chronic stealth infections.

You might first consider which can be used for various kinds of infections

I assume you've been gluten free for years by not but, if not, that's the first thing to consider.

I would also consider blood glucose / insulin complications. Do you happen to have a blood glucose meter and test strips?

Test 30-min,. 60-minutes and 2 hours after meals to get a good view of how your body reacts to certain foods. Each of these times matters.

If you don't can you borrow a friend's and get 25 test strips for yourself. No prescpt required though they are spendy. Costco has a good price.

more later on why I suggest this but many of us are walking around with undiagnosed insulin resisitenc / isuse.s

Prof. Garth Nicholson's research in Mycoplasma is to be commended. He does not treat. Still, he is THE top expert researcher in this field (although that does not mean others don't have some good insight, too).

He has been a presenter at various ILADS conference on this topic.

Keebler, do you remember if your friend claimed to experience improvements with the program?

If so, do you remember what they were?

(Keebs, yes, I am gluten free and have many hypersensitivities. I've been treated for over a decade by four different LLMD's -- Lyme 28 years.)

Good that you are GF. Also Low-Oxalate ? I've got good links on that - just watched lots of lectures last month on this.

For starters: Sally K. Norton - YouTube

Have you been able to test your blood glucose at home repeatedly? This made a huge difference for me. The typical tests done by doctors can miss so much in this regard.

I am really just looking for responses about the program itself. I'd like to know if anyone has completed the program, and how they, or someone they know, would rate it.

If you or someone you know has experience with the program, I'd love to hear your opinion.

Here's a discussion thread about it - AH is the person who developed DNRS. Sorry that I also have several posts here, you can just bypass those, though and see the others.

I just posted this today on the Mast Cell thread in General Support.

One of the most hopeful stories I've read about DNRS:

https://resilientlyrachel.com/2018/10/14/dnrs-my-6-month-update/?fbclid=IwAR3gX0hOC06jqQxVmDQVYXYn1PmE4gD1ytK9oQni15WLxGuI0Tyx5xzjjJA

Cotton .. I have heard from several friends who found it helpful.

wow, Lymetoo, that's an inspiring blog!

Thanks to you, and Keebler, for the links -- very helpful, indeed.

tutu, have you thought of posting that link in Medical? It's not conventional medical practice, but neither is anything when it comes to Lyme.

I just started Doidge's book Heal the Brain, about neuroplasticity, and I highly recommend it.

I have purchased both the DNRS program and the Gupta program. Both are for limibic system retraining so have similar ideas steps. I have to say I do like Gupta's approach better because it is a lot about calming/meditation etc. He also advocates for staying positive but not like DNRS. DNRS really pushes this to the point where it almost feels weird.

I do think it is about timing. I still have active infections and have a hard time treating due to sensitivities. If your infections are under control then I think it will be more helpful.

I asked my LLND about this and she said feels it is a lot about timing as well whether or not it will be helpful.

Joe Dispenza talks a lot about things like this. Visualizing the future and changing your thoughts to create new neural pathways. His book Breaking the Habit of Being You is all about this and Annie refers to him a lot.

I haven't benefited much from DNRS but I also have been very ill with balance problems/vertigo etc so it has been hard to give it 100%.

Also, Annie did an interview on Better Health Guy and she does give a case of someone with Lyme and how he benefited.

But she stated after the infections where under control he still had residual symptoms and DNRS really helped him shift to get into a better place and make a full recovery.

Just emphasizing that in the middle of treatment this may be hard because of die off etc...all that comes a long with treatment. But if your out of the woods with all of that I think one of the limbic system programs would be helpful

I agree with Lymetoo. From what I've read about it, it can be a game changer, particularly folks with mast cell activation syndrome or multiple chemical sensitivities or other food sensitivities. Dr. N talks about it in his recent book "Toxic" and I've heard him discuss it on the blogcast with Betterheathguy. His most sensitive patients see responses ranging from "good" to "Remarkable/amazing".

Keebler..if you think DNRS is trying to convince folks it is all in their head or blaming folks for the issue then you are misunderstanding what it is.

Dr. N does a good job explaining it. The symptoms are real. What the patients experience is real. Not imagined. It isn't caused by anything intentional that the patient is doing. The issue is the mind/body gets "Stuck" in "fight or flight" and can't break the cycle. DNRS helps to break the cycle and stop the fight/flight mode, reducing symptoms.

Here is a good article about it from Dr. N http://www.neilnathanmd.com/newsletter-14-dysfunctional-limbic-system/

I use DNRS and I highly recommend it. I found out about it from a neighbor with a lupus diagnosis, who was having severe issues and trying to sort out whether it was Lupus or other auto-immune disease. She was working with a Lyme-friendly doctor who did not treat Lyme, but recognized the importance of using valid labs (Igenex).

Her testing and challenges were negative for Lyme, but she had a mold issue in her house with genetic factors, which factored into auto-immune issues. Addressing mold, remaining gluten-free, along with DNRS enabled her to rewire her brain, which has helped her immune system become more effective.

She attended the DNRS conference in Austin last year and was amazed. She said nearly all the patients in attendance were chronic Lyme patients. She insisted I order DVDs and start when they had a sale and she helped finance them for me, so I could make the investment myself.

She had been unable to her own grocery shopping and was home-bound when she started. She is an active member of a charitable organization I was volunteering with, works full time telecommunity with a stressful, technical job, and I’ve regularly run into her exercising or running errands in town.

DNRS has been a blessing to me after my family went through a natural disaster, year-long layoffs and other significant stresses that are capable of causing illness and/or relapse. I really wish I could attend a seminar myself.

It makes perfect sense and it really works to transition from the fight or flight response. Better Health Guy, Scott Forsgren, who used to post here writes about it. He is a fantastic resource and I’ve run into him a number of times at conferences since he first embarked on his Lyme journey and now that he is radiantly healthy and very high energy. If you haven’t checked out his website or newsletter because he is a clearing house of great information.

Keebler, I’m so sorry anyone would twist something helpful and use it to be so dismissive towards another’s suffering. While I’ve not worked with Annie Hopper personally, based upon the individuals I know who have used DNRS and my own experience with it, I think your friend has perhaps heard only what she wants to hear and there is some type of distortion there that validates her being an insensitive and toxic person. (Good riddance because nobody needs friends like that.)

I wish I could be of more help, but it's been years since I've seen an LLMD and I'm no longer motivated to stay current with research. I’m almost through some horrendous life stresses and uncertainty. For me, diet, adrenal support, BHRT, and DNRS remain a huge part of my healing foundation.

I consider my health fully restored and no longer rely on medications anymore, with the exception of an occasional motrin/aspirin, or Benadryl. Though I don’t see an LLMD now, I did meet one of our Lyme friendly doctors instate in a social setting this fall. He mentioned the importance of DNRS in his practice, which confirms what I suspect. Were it not for DNRS, I may well have needed prescription antidepressants or anxiety medication to get through the last two, plus years. With it, I'm finding myself more resilient than I've ever been.

It's definitely worth the commitment.

Cottonbrain .. I guess I could post it here. If anyone needs info on MAST CELL ACTIVATION, there is a three-page thread over in General Support.

Keikko .. If I decide to do this, I am leaning towards Gupta also. I think his style is a better fit for me.

Thanks, Lonestartick, for all of the info!

This was posted today by one of my mast cell friends:

-

Do you believe in miracles ? Have you heard of miracles happening ? Healing miracles ? Well my friends it has happened to me..I have experienced a miracle....

As everyone knows I fell ill in 2015 . I was diagnosed with Mast cell activation disorder ...Dysauntanomia ....food intolerances ...multiple chemical sensitivity and other diagnosis as well .....

It was a very tough time in my life ..I almost lost hope until I found a Nueroplascity program called The Dynamic Neural Retraining System .....I started the program in July 2016 and had some improvements....in October 2017 I attended a DNRS live seminar and it changed my life

....I learned the program so much better ....I dedicated my life to my recovery .....I started having major improvements in my health ..I was gaining my life back piece by piece ...I had major goals come true ...

I had a birthday cake for the first time in a couple of years ...I started traveling again...I went to a hair & nail salon ...I attended parties ...I added foods into my diet ...

I joined a gym ....I went shopping ....I was socializing with friends ...i started laughing ...smiling ....being happy again ...and so much more .....i was Lisa again .

I spent hours and hours redirecting my thoughts to positive ones...elevated my mood everyday ...I lived with rose colored glasses on and was not around any negativity ...

I spent hours doing the DNRS daily practices .I was very dedicated and resilient . I rewired my brain and shut disease genes down in my body and today I can say that i am healed and am living a normal life again ......

it was quite the journey and I learned so much about myself along the way ....
I could honestly say that I think this happened to me for a reason ....I appreciate life so much more now and everything that I have ....I appreciate my family & my friends ...

i see the world differently now ....it made me a better person ....I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me ...I know it will be great ! Thank you everyone for being here for me & supporting me throughout my journey! Thank you to all of my DNRS friends ..I truly met so many great people along the way .

If anyone is suffering with chronic illness or someone you know has some kind of mystery illness please give DNRS a try ..it works ! I shut the disease down in my body by rewiring my brain through nueroplascity.

Here is some info about the DNRS program:

thanks so much for posting Keikko, Lonestar, and Tutu. And Keikko, I do hope you get to a point where you can fully utilize the DNSR and Gupta programs.

I started the DVD program yesterday -- very excited about retraining my brain! The DVD didn't work properly on my computer -- the video kept jumping around and flashing. I shrunk the picture down to a 2" square, but by mid-

morning, I was in a state of horrible anxiety and depression from the flashing and jerking images. I was stuck in that emotional state all day. Which confirmed to me how very much I need the program!

I'm borrowing a computer for the next six months. So far so good! Working beautifully. I'll check back in with progress notes. : )

Cotton, any chance you might borrow an old fashioned DVD player for the TV? That's how my DNRS DVDs play best. If you are tech savvy or have a friend who is, it might be possible to rip it to your hard drive to play from a file, but it's probably easier to borrow the TV kind.

Lymetoo - good to see you again. You were a huge help to mom & me in the forums!

And thanks for sharing the mast cell review. It makes sense that limbic retraining programs help seemingly unrelated symptoms because the limbic system (hypothalamus, hippocampus, amygdala, and cingulate cortex) monitors threats and assigns emotional significance to everything we experience.

It regulates our memories, our hormones, processing of all sensory info (sight, sound, smell, emf...) and the functioning of our parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system, all without our awareness.

When it's been injured by infections, viruses, inflammation, and stress and trauma (physical or emotional), retraining helps put out the fire and reset responses to a normal state.
