Last night I was in the middle of doing the three-hour allergy clearing I do twice a day and noticed a bright bump on my leg.
Since I got Lyme in 2003, there have been dozens of times I've seen a bump of some sort somewhere on me, followed by a quick rush of fear, but every time it's been something other than a tick.
Not this time, though. It was a tick, and it's head was well-buried in my leg. Fortunately, I bought a cheap, effective plastic tick remover from my vet's office in 2005 (available at tickedoff.com). Working slowly and carefully, I was able to use the tick remover to get the entire tick out of my leg, including the head, which definitely would have remained in my leg without the tick remover tool.
There was a mild red bump where the tick was attached, about like a mosquito bite, and the bump had gone down by 80% this morning. I don't think the tick was on me long enough to transmit anything. Thank God I noticed it.
Unfortunately, before I could get the tick to the toilet and send it to hell, it jumped ship out of the paper cup I was carrying in. I searched all over the sofa and floor, and couldn't find it.
For the next three days, my wife and I will do a brief tick check on each other once a day, to make sure the tick hasn't reattached.
There's no limit to the level of paranoia this wretched illness instills in me.

It's an epidemic and many of us will be experiencing, yet again, another dreadful bite from these sewer devils.
Get prepared.
ALWAYS apply tick repellant before going outdoors.
Always TREAT the bite. Latest research shows infection can be spread the minute a tick bites.
Always document the bite area with quality pictures. Always take quality pictures of tick. Always save the tick in ziplock bag.(if you can find them)
Buy lint brushes from the dollar store and always have one handy in your car, entry area into your house, and bathroom. Ticks are very fast and hard to catch but they can't outrun a lint brush. Try not to squish it, take your pictures while on lint paper, overview shot and eye level shot.

I'm so happy for you that you noticed the tick and removed it. It's awesome that you knew what to do
You might consider taking two tablespoons of Colloidal Silver twice a day in case you did contract an infection. Colloidal Silver treats infections, but is gentle on the body and won't alter your flora and cause yeast infections, unlike antibiotics.
If you develop a rash, take a picture of it and go to the doctor for antibiotics
