The FDA is warning that serious life-threatening and fatal respiratory depression with seizures has been reported with Gabapetin, Neurontin, Gralise, Horizant, Pregabalin, Lyrica, and Lyrica CR.
Risk factors; 1. Patients that are prescriped combination medications the depress the central nervous system (CNS) such as opiod pain medicines, anti-anxiety medicines, anti-depressants, and anti-histamines.
2. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
3. The elderly
Physicians are advised to prescripe the lowest dose.
(I have written about Gabapetin before. It is the go-to drug for Neurologists, especially since the opiod crisis. Neurologists suggest 900mg - 1200mg doseage per day. I had to fight to get 100mg capsules prescriped.)
