Hi all. I've actually been having several good weeks, and feel like I've been making progress with Flagyl and Rifampin. However, last night brought back nights of many months ago. I was hot and sweaty, super super dizzy, and when I lay down, I felt like my heart was palpitating and I would fall onto the floor. I just about had an anxiety attack while trying to go to sleep.

Here's the thing - my hubby painted a room on our first floor yesterday. The house was still quite fumy last night. I was fine all day, as I was either outside or upstairs with the door closed.

But last night , I could really smell the fumes, and that's when I started to get dizzy. Could paint fumes cause me to have such a reaction? Have I developed MCS? A few days ago, the smell of the newspaper put me into a total sneeze attack. I'm on allery meds, and I go to see my allergist this Thursday...

Any thoughts or advice?

These can be symptoms of mcs. If you decide
to paint a room again, plan on using a paint
with low Vocs, and I believe that Benjamin
Moore makes one. It would also be good to
use good ventilation and be out of the house
for at least a couple of days.

If you are reacting to newspaper print,
other fumes, odors, it is a possibility that
you are developing mcs. I would look into
detoxing with something for the liver, avoid
as many exposures as possible and do detox
empsom salt baths or sauna.

Thanks for the advice. I started taking Milk Thistle last week, and have been slowly upping my dosage. I must confess I've backed off on the epsom salt baths because I've been feeling so good.

Is MCS something you can be tested for?

Guess this kills my plans to have the rest of the downstairs painted (lol!) Hubby will be happy to hear that.

Hi Lymeinhell,

I agree with Diane, it could be the begining of mcs. Mine started the same way. First it was paint, then perfumes, gasoline etc. then it spiraled out of control. Took a long time to get it more in line.

Try to avoid these things the best you can, keep your immune system boosted as much as possible too.

Chemicals can still knock the wind out of my sails at times with the anxiety/ shakey, feeling horrible. Good luck, hope you get it under control.

LIH, I had the same experience last week. I felt less foggy until I went into an apartment that had just been painted and wow, I got hit by a wave of thick fog.

I'm convinced that Lyme and/or metals can trigger MCS as I never had this reaction prior to Lyme. I even painted my apartment 2x without a hint of MCS symptoms.

I have the same reaction to paints. If you really want to paint your house, consider either Bioshield Paints or Safecoat. You can try Benjamin Moore low VOC (volatile organic compound).

Whichever one, I recommend trying a small amount first, because everybody reacts differently to them. And try to stay out of the house for a few days to let it air out.

Avoidance of exposure is really important to let your system calm down and become less reactive. Some people find that Lyme treatment reduces the chemical sensitivity, but not everyone. Mine has waxed and waned for 11 years, depending on general health and level of exposure.

Good luck!
