My son tested positive for mycoplasma and Epstein Barr Virus. He doesn't have the lyme testing back yet. Do these two infections often come along with Lyme Disease? Does anyone know about this mycoplasma? He was diagnosed in March with Mono and at the end of October his spleen was enlarged with low blood pressure and low pulse along with lyme symptoms.

Those were the first two indicators for my daughter and myself. Another virus that hitched a ride was Parvovirus.

They are opportunistic, so there is probably something else that is attacking the immune system and making you vulnerable.

Let us know.

The Dr B gave a short speech last Saturday to the NY support group. Topic was coinfections.

He mentioned that Lyme patients who do not get well often have mycoplasma and reactivated viruses.

With the enlarged spleen I would be concerned about Babesia although I think this could also come from Lyme.

Go to this thread and there are additional links and info on mycoplasmas.

Statistics say that Lyme positives have a rate of 60-75% of mycolplasma infection rates. The 2nd link on treatment guidelines for Lyme has a table in it for abx regimens including myco's.

The first is an excellent video presentation given to the Lay Institute on myco's. Very educational and mentions Lyme as well.
