I went to an ENT because I couldn't tell if my sinus pressure was Lyme or allergies or both.
I have had this hard pointed lump growing behind my left tonsil for about 9 years. No ENT has been able to find it even when I point it out.
So this new ENT reaches in behind my tonsil, feels the spike and says, "Oh...that shouldn't be there." And calls her partner for another check.
They get all excited and tell me I need a neck exray to view my "styloid process."
I look up styloid process and Eagles Syndrome when I get home. The styloid process is a bone that extends from the back of the skull forward. The Syndrome is when the end of that bone calcifies and gets too long.
When this happens it can protrude into the throat....causing glossopharyngeal discomfort, migraines, sore throat, dizziness, caratodinia... to name a few exciting options. I have all of those symptoms along with my regular Lyme menu.
What's more...the bone looks like a tusk. OMG I have an inner walrus trapped inside me!
I go for the xray tomorrow. This is too weird.
Anyone heard of this?

Betty, the Medline Plus search box is now up at the top of the web page, almost blended into the blue bar.
Hope that helps, Shaz

Well, I heard of it only recently. When I was in the waiting room for my sinus surgery, the lady next to me had a daughter who was in surgery with the Eagle's Syndrome.
She was a singer and the surgery would help her be able to continue singing!!
I hope if you have surgery it will help SOMETHING!!
