I think it was wnderneath this site the IDSA kindly posted a page for readers to rate the usefulness of the article. Here is my reply:
"After a deer tick bit me in 1995 I lost strength. My doctor ignored the expanding bulls-eye rash on my leg at the site of the bite.
By 6/97 I was unable to walk. HMO Drs. here do ot look for Lyme disease. They diagnosed Guillain Barre syndrome and CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy) and through May 10 1999 administered 11 plasmpheresis rounds, then 3 IV steroid doses (nearly killed me) and 11 doses of 90GM IV immune globulin.
These cost a small fortune but produced no sustained, progressive health benefits.
I had to go out of my independent and Medicare HMOs for antibiotics that the IDSA opposes. The result: ongoing health and strength gains! It took years but my non-Medicare HMO reimbursed my IV antibiotics. Now I fight MA and HHS individuals whose vested interests seem to place short term personal gains ahead of contractual benefits due to vulnerable, endangered enrollees."
