My daugher is taking Vicodin for her unrelending headache that she's had for 2 years.

I want her to try low dose naltrexone (3 mg) but I've heard that people taking LDN can't take Vicodin.

She doesn't want to stop the Vicodin because the headache is too much to bare.

What are the effects of taking both together? Has anyone taken both of these meds at the same time?

Thanks very much, Paul.

I take ldn, and sometimes read on the ldn yahoo groups, and I have seen several postings about people using them together.

they reported no problem. The ldn just works for a short time, you only take it late in the evening.

Just what I read, I have no experience myself with anything like vicodin and ldn.

well my MS doctor before finding out Lyme was the founder of LDN for HIV, and other auto-immune diseases, Dr. Bahari in NYC.

He said NOT to take the opiate pain drugs due to adverse reaction...just like if drinking alchohol.

I think if you limit to the drugs only during day, may be okay.

I got worse on the LDN with the Lyme symptoms. (I was on LDN for 2 yrs before I found a LLMD and that I had lyme)

Much more pain in back, legs, feet,headaches...maybe because I couldn't take the pain meds. that made my life bearable.

I can not take LDN while doing abxs...I feel like I'm gonna die 1 hr after taking it. Even if I space it from the abx.

It is not a herx reaction-remember I was with a LLMD and the founding doc at the same time, both agreed not a herx reaction. I had done LDN for 2 years prior without this type of reaction.

I still get violently ill about one hour after taking it while on abxs.

So, until I'm off abxs I will not do it. I use Beta Glucan to boost my immune system. Doesn't give me an adverse reaction. I even take it with my abxs.

From: http://www.aboutbetaglucan.com/

quote:
Beta glucan causes your macrophages (your first line of immune defense) to react aggressively against threats foreign to your body (cancer cells, bacteria, viruses bacteria etc.). Beta glucan, also, helps your immune system to very accurately recognize "self" so that you don't experience auto-immune reactions .

Since the "MS" symptoms are/were considered an autoimmune reaction this appears benificial to me.

I take LDN and antibiotics with no problems. The first two weeks on LDN are often an adjustment period for your brain and you may have poor sleep, which might increase pain in some people (it probably REALLY depends on the source of pain- I am not a doctor and this may not be an accurate theory on my part. i'm thinking of the 'fibromyalgia pain and sleep' theory sort of pain, not the other kinds that other Lyme patients experience).

I also had to take an opiate - either vicodin, or percoset, I can't remember which- when I sprained an ankle very badly while I was on LDN. the painkiller worked fine for me.

LDN didn't work out well for me.

It caused swelling that resulted in snoring that wakes me from sleep. Previously I almost never snored (according to my wife). Sleep became very difficult. The problem came on quickly and now months after stopped LDN, it has not completely gone away. YMMV

Hi Lymestop,

I just started low-dose naltrexone two nights ago.

I've had the Rx for a month, but needed to wait until a time I could afford to go with less sleep in case it caused problems. I don't sleep well anyway (fibro and pain).

The LDN has caused some disturbances so far (more dreams and more frequent waking).

But the good news is that I also have less pain. Less morning stiffness and less pain in my low back (arthritis). I'm hoping it will also help with inflammation.

I'm going to stick with it and see how it goes.

I read about LDN here and asked my lyme-friendly holistic MD about it. He does prescribe it (didn't think it would help me, though), and it turns out that the compounding pharmacy near his office does a good job with it.

If you have a doctor who knows about prescribing it, they may also know the best place to get it.

Do you know about this website?

www.lowdosenaltrexone.com

Take care,
Nutmeg
