I work in an elementary school in NJ. I just found out that one class has three boys diagnoses with Crohns disease....seems odd doesnt it?

I then read that Lyme is often misdiagnosed as Crohn's disease.

any insight here? these boys are in 5th grade.

I have the symptoms of Crohn's but did not pursue diagnosis once I got diagnosed with Lyme. My problem is much more in line with Crohn's symptoms than IBS .... like I cannot eat raw fruit or veggies during a flare up, also it's more severe.

I wish I could say my GI symptoms are as under control as my Lyme.

From what I've read, Crohn's and Lyme both have inflammation from TH1 response?? Maybe someone else will know more about that. What I'm thinking it that the GI stuff is not necessarily Lyme, but in the end caused by the same thing as Lyme (if that makes sense).

I've also had bad parasite problems, but even after a parasite cleanse, the GI stuff is still bad. Fortunately it doens't make me feel bad, it's just inconvenient.

I do not know if it is "often" misdiagnosed as Crohn's, but it could be.

Lyme suppresses the autoimmune response which could lead to any number of Lyme induced autoimmune conditions, and Crohn's is just one of them.

I have Crohn's, but not Lyme. At the heart of most autoimmune diseases is an improper or weak immune response to bacterial invaders. This cascades into a disease process, and which disease mostly depends on what bacteria are being colonized in your body.

With Crohn's the two most likely bacteria are Mycobacterium Avium subspecies Paratuberculosis.

The second bacteria is likely H-Pylori.

My brother has Crohns and has had a large portion of his small intestine removed b/c of it. I have Lyme, and I suspect my brother probably does too... we both grew up on Long Island, where Lyme is hyper-endemic.
