My son and I visited the vet for our dog (a standard poodle, hypo-allergenic dog) and my son pet a cat and sat on the upholstered sofa in the office (WHY do they have upholstery in a vet office?).

Within the next hour his eyes looked like they had been punched, so swollen. And he was scratching his nose relentlessly.

I've noticed since Lyme hit him that his cat allergy has worsened. He said his throat was very itchy. This all happened four days ago.

Tonight before dinner he went into the basement to look for a food dehydrator. It's sort of damp down there despite the dehumidifier (I need to get a new hose for it).

He brought up a box and he looked horrible. It was the wrong box so I went down to look for the right one.

I brought it up and set it on the kitchen counter, pulled out the dehydrator. He started preparing food next to the box. I took the box off the counter and noticed inside a bunch of moldy spores so I threw it out the back door.

He kept preparing food and put it in the dehumidifier.

(When he was four years old he had an inhaler. We suspected it was a mold issue because of where we were living at the time (in the tropics).)

He just came out of his bedroom, saying he couldn't sleep because of his sinuses hurt. He pointed to his mouth. I found a bright red raw patch of his palette and red bumps down his throat.

He said the bumps itch and went down his throat even further. I gave him 50 mg of Benedryl, took photos and set him to bed.

Before this he was on seven weeks of straight abx. This is his first week off. He did one week of pulsing last week. He starts pulsing the abx again on Monday.

He has been doing loads of probiotics, supplements.

Also, his teeth look horrid. He has a dentist appointment in a week. He hasn't seen a dentist in three years and I'm really worried he's gone too far. I swear his mouth didn't look as bad before he had Lyme and all the abx.

Does this sound like candida, a dental/mouth infection or an allergic reaction?

It's Saturday night - holding pattern. Just want some direction from anyone who might relate to this.

Aleigh, how is your son?

With his history of allergies and possibly asthma (inhaler use) I would be very concerned about him having an allergic reaction.

Did you end up taking him to an urgent care center or ER to be seen? Did his mouth and throat clear up?

Even if he feels well now it might be wise to tell his doctor about this episode and have him tested for allergies. That way you can know for sure what allergy triggers to avoid and how to treat him if he is exposed. And it would be good to have an Epipen on hand for emergencies.

Please take care and let us know how you are doing.

We went to the doctor and got a prescription for Singulair and two epi pens. I also picked up some Clariton. Definitely have noticed more allergies. He's now allergic to dogs, too. Luckily, we have a standard poodle (no shed). But I have to scout every house before he settles in for a visit. All new, all since Lyme...
