Hi Myco,

I am taking Moxatag as well. I'm on the same dosage as you.

Are you by any chance taking this for a pregnancy?

No, male here!

How are you doing on it? How long have you been treating?

Did you just start that, lymers? Cool!

I have been HOPING there would be something a little better than Amoxicillin to take when I get pregnant eventually.....because I feel like I have to take a very high dose of Amox to notice a difference, and I wouldn't want to take that dose while pregnant.

I was even thinking of asking if I could do Bicillin while pregnant! Ha. This sounds like a good option.

How long have you been on it so far?

Blake on Lyme Friends has just started it. He said it's too early to notice anything.

Sorry Myco...no pregnancy for you! Ha, ha.

I'm doing well on the Moxatag. No real strong herxes on it for me yet.

I've been treating for 1 1/2 years now, but the Moxatag I've only been doing for a couple of weeks.

Hi Hoosiers, I guess it is cool! To be honest with you, I didn't totally even know this was something new or different.

I have not taken any amoxicillin for lyme before being on this Moxatag stuff so I didn't have any comparison.

I guess it's basically amoxicillin, but it's in an extended release form. Is this your knowledge of it as well?

Yes, extended release. Happy to hear it is safe alternative for pregnant woman.

I have not taken anything for Lyme other than 200mg Doxy and Mino on and off for a few years. Also am taking Zithromax and Rifampin for Bart and that really got me back to feeling well again.

My LLMD wants to try treating the Lyme a little more aggressively to see how I react and suggested Moxatag. I will also be treating Babesia with Malarone once I drop the Rifampin in a few weeks.

Honestly, I have few symptoms left at this point.

Hi Myco,

I'm glad to hear you're feeling well.

I'm finally to that point, as well.

It's nice to be feeling good again, isn't it?

Our LLD said it is new and very promising, equal to something like 9 bicillin shots. Here's hoping!

Wow, 9 BIcillin shots? 775 mg of time released Amoxy x 2 = 1550mg of Amoxy daily. Is this really like 9 shots of Bicillin?

Hope I don't herx to the high heavens.

Myco, was your body temp running too high or too low before successful treatment?

Thanks!

Interesting ,apparently the special thing about it is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clavulanic_acid
which is useful versus antibiotic resistant bacteria.

I dont see though how it makes it any more effective vs BB since it is not beta lactam resistance in the usual way (e.g. its resistance based on l-forms not on beta lactamase enzymes)

Fail to see how it is so. Active ingredient is exactly same, bioavailability is the same. Essentially exact same thing as extended release amoxicillin but with clavulanic acid added to help with some resistant forms

Its reported increased effectiveness is only vs fast dividing bacteria which exhibited abx resistance, it has increased half life due to extended release (which helps avoding resistance -something amoxy is very bad for due to its short HL of 1.5 hour)

I can see how it is useful as replacement for bicillin shots, but otherwise nothing new. Same exact beta lactam abx as 50 year ago, you could reach same result by take amoxy every 3 hours.

Are you sure Clavulanic acid is in Moxatag? Online, all I saw was, "extended release Amoxicillin."

I think clavulanic acid is in Augmentin, right?

Not sure. If it does not contain it then it is even weaker -basically just extended release amoxy

Clavanic acid is Augmentin- Often amoxil and Augmentin are used in combo to treat strept.

What is the half life of the Moxatag?
