Hi,
Just got back from my LLMD yesterday and apparently I have thyroid autoimmune disease, and my thyroid peroxidase was 462. he's starting me on synthroid. anyone with any experience with this? i guess i have to go to an endorcinologist now. anyone with this that got any better when it was treated. my worst symptoms are horrible spine pain and fatigue.
thanks in advance for any help
Sarah

Hi, you really do not need to go to enocrinologist with just high thyroid antibodies.
Endos are famous for just looking at the TSH, and if it is not above the reference range, they say not to treat.

I have been on the thyroid forums for ages and know that.

just stick to the LLMD for thyroid treatment.

Also, many patients do better on Natural Thyroid. Right now there is a shortage of Armour Thyroid so many patients get the same med, different brand, from Canada, called Thyroid.

So if your TSH is not elevated, you can forget to go to an endocrinologist.

The patients that have hypothyroidsim without TSH above the range, have good experiences going to a doctor who is a D.O. , doctor of osteopathy, since they consider the whole patient, not just some labs.

With all due respect to n.northernlights, I believe Sarah is talking about a different situation. I've been treated with thyroid most of my life, and know of the controversy you speak of....but....thyroid autoimmune disease is a serious situation, and in my opinion, Sarah should go see her endo. BTW, I just refilled my Armour prescription....I think things are getting back to normal on that front.

I have thyroid autoimmune and have been told to not treat ...there is no common ground on treating or not treating it appears...or who to treat if you do decide to do this.

It is a hard issue to know which direction to take with the autoimmune component.

Many threads and discussions on this on lymenet in past weeks.

The trick is finding a good Endo. It took me 9 yrs. and 4 others before I found the right one. Hormones were always in Normal range.

When it

had grown so large I could not eat, sleep, and had to drink to breath he said I could have stopped all

that growth if you had come seen me sooner....I do not have the antibodies which can destroy the

thyroid so it is wise to see a great endo who can stop it. Many people that do have them I think may be viral caused.
My hubbies shrunk to about the size of my thumb.
