This is a bit scary. I know there are many off-label uses for various Rx's, but I have a script from a well-versed LLMD for Seroguel for insomnia.

I looked it up, and results were that it is normally used for bipolar and schizophrenia. ?? I don't- me, myself, or I- have those conditions.

Has anyone else been given an RX of it for sleep purposes and did you find it effective w/no bizarre side effects?

Thanks,
Dawn

Yes, sedative drugs are used for many different reasons. My liver can't deal with any of those, even in tiny doses. And, as we really need our livers to be on board, in our quest to get some sleep, it's helpful to first consider things that are not hard on our bodies.

Yes, that medicine has been used for sleep. It is ann anti-psychotic.

It doesn't mean that you are psychotic.

Does it help with your sleep? I've heard that the results are good.

Don't know, Haley. I haven't tried it yet.

Keebler, thanks for the info.

I have tried most of the complementary insomnia treatments over the years to no avail.

I also have a non-growng pineal gland tumor that might be (probably is) inhibiting production of melatonin, but my neurosurgeon- who is AWESOME, totally trust him- says that he would not recommend trying melatonin and/or tryptophan (and derivatives) b/c who knows what it may conjure with the pineal stuff.

I'm a kook!

Hey Dawn,

I have not taken Seroquel for sleep but my non-lyme affected brother uses it for sleep at a low dose.

It is often used off-label for this purpose....doesn't mean that you're psychotic, bi-polar or anything else [Wink]

Anyway, he is a Firefighter and is awakened at all odd hours etc.. He is very pleased with his sleep since taking Seroquel..swears by it.

for what it's worth,
Feelfit

I use it and am very pleased with it. My LLMD gave it to me and my psychiatrist said that some people require very high doses to sleep. So my 75mg is not high.

But I also have to take a restoril with it to help me fall asleep. The seroquel keeps me asleep. And no, I am not psychotic! [Smile]

Dawn, I am the same as you are regarding not sleeping. My LLMD wants me to try Zyprexa for sleep and to give me an appetite since I am so nauseated and have lost so much weight.

I do NOT have bi-poloar disorder or schizophrenia but he uses this as an off lable use for sleep as well.

I have been too scared to try it.....

I took Seroquel. It helped with anxiety, helped my sleep (some), but from what my daughter is telling me (she's a nursing student), you don't really go into the right stages of sleep when you use these meds, which can lead to other problems down the road.

I also gained weight rapidly on Seroquel, though for me it was okay because I needed to.

My advice though would be for you to avoid it.
