It seems like lyme can flare repeatedly; the best thing to do is to see your llmd and discuss with him/her.

good luck

I think so,I'm no expert but,

It's always in our bodies right, you can't get rid of it completely. If your immune system becomes overloaded once again, why couldn't it?

Our immune systems play such a huge role in this disease and if gets overwhelmed later down the road after treatment (whether by illness, stress, viruses, etc..) I believe it can rear it's ugly head again. I bet alot of other opportunistic fungi /virus /bacterial infections can as well beating the immune system down even further, aiding in the lyme revenge.

My LLMD is always saying the million$ question for him is for patients that are symptom free on treatment for a while, will the immune system be able to take over and handle the load w/o abx. He also stresses that I need to take the best possible care of myself to avoid relapse. There is no cure for Lyme, just a balance.

I've been off treatment and symptom free since Feb so my skeptical self leaned towards believing him, lol.

That being said, other things cause similar symptoms like yeast etc...also, could you have possibly been undertreated or have co-infections that went unaddressed?

Eitherway, I'd get an appt with your LLMD and discuss,

Best,
Murphy

My LLMD says you need to stay on Maintenance abx for the rest of your life, as you can't totally eradicate the disease, but rather put it in remission.

He says without Maintenance abx, the entire thing can come back and out of remission so that you have to start all over again with treatment.

I am only told this and passing it along to you.

GL,

Gary

Yes. I had that experience for YEARS (over 30 years) before getting bitten again. After the more recent tick bite, I stayed sick until treated.

Some people do need maintenance. I'm off all meds and killing herbs (I do take detox herbs though), so some people do not need maintenance.

Okay...this is where I get really confused. Sorry..I'm pusling Flagyl today and am really emotional. Some say you can rid yourself of this for good and get off meds. Others say no you can't.

I want to believe I can be "normal" again and I won't have to be on abx the rest of my life. I need to know this. I need to have faith.

Gary..I'm not doubting what you heard. But maybe it is your LLMD. TF seems to have kicked this hard and has been cured for 5 years and that was after her original LLMD told her she would be on meds teh rest of her life.

Sorry..just havinga bad day I guess. I have a case of the PLM's (Poor Little Me's)

I disagree since I've been off abx for 5 1/2 yrs now.

Prior to being treated for my undiagnosed Lyme, I would have flares and then it would go dormant for a long time. Finally it got so bad, that I had to retire from teaching... still not knowing what I had.

My LLMD believes that chronic lyme goes into remission and can, therefore, flare up. I am currently experiencing a flare after 8 months off of antibiotics.

I've been told it is important to maintain a healthy diet, exercise, try to be stress free, take appropriate supplements, etc. when in remission to give yourself the best chance of staying there.

Best of luck to you! I hope you're feeling better very soon!
