last few days i've had a tickle of a sore throat, I blamed it on allergies and post nasal drip...but 6 days later I still have it. Throat is red!

Could It be possible to have a sore throat even though i'm on ABX? or a viral infection?

just has some blood work done yesterday and I asked for white blood count, have to wait for results...just confused?

I had a sore throat for 10 straight months while on several combo's of abx..it felt like strep and was very painful.

The doctor told me it was most likely a viral reaction to the abx...I got it 5 days after starting treatment many years ago.

Then suddenly one day it went away and never came back even though I continued on treatment for another 20 months.

jenn; Same thing here. Got a sore throat/cold which turned into yet another sinus infection WHILE on Biaxin.

So now in order to get rid of the ever evolvoing sinus infection I had to go off of Biaxin and on to Levaquin.

My LLMD said it is just a normal run of the mill viral cold /allergy that turned into sinus infection - my ENT confirmed this. Happens to me too often.

I know you already know this but, if it is viral then abx.'s won't do a thing for it - only if it is bacterial will the abx.'s be of benefit.

Hope you feel better soon. TG

I am on Biaxin and doxy for the past several months. In the last couple of weeks, my throat has been constantly sore, but not very bad and it hasn't gotten worse or better. I don't have any other cold symptoms.

When I get a cold, it usually is bad and then goes away in a few days. I have occasionally had a sore throat and/or swollen right lymph node on my neck since I got Lyme, but it usually lasts one day and goes away, or only appears early in the morning.

I have had different viral things flare up here and there, while on antibiotics. I assume it is just another annoyance to put up with until it decides to go away.

A sore throat with no other cold symptoms could be a Bartonella symptom.

A sore throat and swollen ymph node definitely sounds like Bartonella.

I am in the early stages (2 weeks since bite) and have a very bad sore throat and swollen glands. Have no idea if it is from Lyme or just a plain old sore throat.

Look in the back of your throat. Is it the actual back of the throat or the sides? Do you have "red arches" there? That's very common for lyme patients. It can be extremely painful.

I had this for years with doctors saying that my throat looked fine. And, I could see the red arches. How they looked past them, I'll never know.

Yes, even on abx, one can have a sore throat. The body's working hard and just can't put out all the fires.

Keebler, I was told in March by LLMD that I had the red band in back of mouth and that it meant lyme (or maybe she said Chronic Fatigue.

I've since searched high and low online for any info about the red band but could find nothing.

So it's good to hear from you that this is true and you had it too.

I wonder how common it is.

When it went away did you feel better? I mean, did other symptoms disappear around the same time.

There is strep going around here so maybe it is in your area too.

Just wanted to add that my sore throat started when I went on ketek, amoxicillin and probenecid.
Even when I changed to ketek and ceftin it continued.
Went back on amox and probenecid and it still didn't go away.

The doctors were totally baffled as to why I had a continous sore throat for so long..

I start to get them off & on... either viral or it's bacterial that just got away from the abx somehow. I get concerned about developing some type of antibiotic resistant bug, so I have been doing this and it works in about 2-3 days every time...

Add 1tsp of sea salt (or regular salt if you have to) and 5-6 drops of GSE to about 2-3oz of really warm tap water. Gargle & spit until it's all gone, and totalling about 30 sec of gargling.

Do this 3x per day & make sure to make the gargling noise so it really gets down to the infected parts of your throat. Do it until not even the slightest sign of sore throat anymore.

It will burn like the devil at first and may make it a little more raw at the beginning too.

I am doing this now, and again getting over a sore throat that started about 3 days ago.

I recently developed a sore throat and then extremely sensitive glands in my cheeks, under my arms and in my neck. I realized I had been on Bart meds (zith and rifampin) for 5 months and then dropped them and went on to lyme meds. LLMD suspected Bart relapse and I think he was right. He put me on Cipro and after 7 days things have gone down and my energy, head, everything is much clearer.

So, bringing this up again...

Sore throat... mine is red, sore... and I'm on Zith... I've been getting this now for a few days each week lately. Comes and goes, but when it comes, it hurts like strep.

Anyone else get this with herxing? Headache, a real one, and a sore throat... I've had many many different herxes, but never thought that this might be one?

I'm going to follow-up Keebler's response. Shine a flashlight in the mirror on the back of your throat. Do you see red crescents on both sides? They are very common in chronic fatigue patients and in Lyme patients. Look up Cheney (CFIDS doc) and red crescents on the net. Viral implications?

Started ketek and now a sore throat? Think Candida-although ketek is extremely powerful it often causes Candida problems.

Janet? I am on Zithromax and Diflucan. No candida problems if that's what you meant.?

These sore throats come and go. When they come on for a few days, it's like strep. Then go away. I see my llmd in a few days. Will run it past him.

I looked... I do not have any crimson or red crescents...

I'll be seeing my LLMD in a few days. Will run it passed him. I'm thinking it's a herx... or maybe I have a common virus that I caught. [Embarrassed] )

If this is an ongoing sore throat, I would ask for a blood test for Strep.

Most doctors don't test for Strep this way. They do a culture of your throat and then tell you your fine.

I have a high Strep titer. I often have a sore throat. Sometimes it gets better depending on what meds I'm on. It's as difficult to treat Strep as it is Lyme. You just hope that it goes into remission.
