Ethics of Synthetic Biology Conference concluded today on CSpan.
The very last question was
"What to do about coordinating other countries data and findings into the US regulators in the research into genetically modified organics?"
The answer by at least 2 on the committee was, "Needs addressed. Esp. in relation to ...Corn for example"....
The NIH speaker was very eloquent and when addressing the need of regulations needs--- did they believe the current guidelines need tossed and rewritten.
Their answers were no---it is true the regulations are not keeping up with the science,
but they believed that by either introducing another group to address that job, or delegating that job to groups already in place-----it could be accomplished... ------------------------------------------ If they have not already done so by now===I see no reason to give them a chance to make change now... Start a new group....With NO CONFLICT OF INTERESTS.
