I haven't posted in a while because I have been doing soooo much better!

I've been on abx (minocycline) since March. Most of April, May and June I've felt almost normal!!

I recently started a new job and so I have more stress than usual. Less sleep, lots of travel, etc... I've also drank alcohol on several occassions (1-3 drinks). I'm noticing that if I have a drink the next day I seem to be very itchy all over. This just started this week.

I have no idea what this could be....any ideas? Can Mino and alchohol cause a bad reaction?

The body treats alcohol like sugar. I gave it up three years ago. If you have one of these infections you should give up alcohol. Itching could be yeast, which could make sense after just drinking.

my friend was just in the hospital for this. her ONLY symptom was itching... turns out her liver was creating too much bile and it was leaking into her blood stream. it's a very serious issue...

i know anti-biotics aren't good for the liver... makes me wonder :/

Thanks kelle and riche

I did take a diflucan tablet and my itching stopped. I figured it might be yeast.

I hadn't thought of the liver thing. I guess I should have my liver evaluated? I haven't been back to my doc since Mar 15....

Systemic Candida can be fatal.....and alcohol impedes the heat sensitivity gene in Lyme....allowing it to survive in high heat.

No more alcohol....no more.

A stressed liver can cause itchy skin. It's too bad you weren't able to read the self-care guidelines yet as that might have saved you some problems. Alcohol is not allowed during treatment - in order to help save your liver. Lyme toxins damage the liver - and the brain. Alcohol is very hard on the liver and the brain - and the heart and the kidneys.

The meds needed to treat are also often stressful to the liver, so the very best care of the liver (and the whole body) is necessary. Every minute. Every day. The spirochetes are just waiting for a chance to win.

There is no point in taking antibiotics if alcohol is added as, then, the medicine is no longer the original medicine - it's changed by the addition of the alcohol, by its very chemical nature. A toxic stew inside your stomach is the result.

If you drink lots of water, rest, and get back on track you should feel better soon. But there's no way to tell how much ground can be lost with just one drink. Spirochetes so love a good party. But, here's hoping you get better so you can enjoy all the good things in life.

OMG, I had whole body itching when I first got sick a year ago. It began about a month after starting supplements (hadn't started abx yet) I was taking Andrographis and Wormwood.

It seemed to occur during a 30day cyclical flareup - I was so miserable I've never been so miserable in my whole life! It felt like my body was itching from the inside out. It lasted about 5 days where it was very severe

. I DID NOT DIE! Shortly after, I began abx, Amoxy and Doxy, and the itching completely stopped. I did not do any extra treatment for yeast other than probiotics and some garlic pills. Don't know what it was but have read that it is a symptom of lyme.

btw, I do not drink alcohol - never have. I do allow myself a very small amount of sugar from time to time.. I use honey in my decaf coffee and will have a tiny sugar treat. If I get too rigid with myself and say " NO SUGAR EVER!" then my inner child rebels and it's not good!

btw, I know of several people who have recovered even though they had occasional sugar and were very sleep deprived. I think that Dr. B protocol is a great guide, though.

Yes, we are striving to follow accurately, but I find for myself, that if I become too rigid, that will backfire and that will be stressful. The message that I give myself around sleep is:

I am doing the best that I can given that lymes is interrupting my sleep. I am going to be positive and gentle with myself and keep trusting that I will fully recover in spite of this difficulty.. others have and I will too!

Hmmm... this itching thing has happened to me three times and last for about 3-5 days. Always happens when I re-start ABX (levaquin in my case) for Bart, not at any other time. It's not due to an allergic reaction, as I have tolerated Levaquin for other issues in the past fine, and continue to do so. Weird stuff.
