I have been suffering from stomach woes for a few weeks now. I tested positive today for blood in my stool. Also, told my H. pylori test was slightly positive...whatever that means.
My nurse practioner prescribed Carafate because she said stomach is bleeding.

LLMD was not concerned at all. He told me he could not evaluate me from another state and do whatever I wanted. I asked if I should stop meds, and he said it's whatever I want to do. I have only saw him twice but would never call if I didn't think it was necessary. I don't know what to do.

Can I continue to take abx even though stomach is bleeding? I need to treat H. pylori but not sure what to do. I just want to know if my stomach will heal while I am taking abx. I also started Carafate today.

I just want to give up on all of this. I am so frustrated and tired of fighting for the help I need.

Thanks for listening.

Sorry your LLMD wasn't more supportive. What did the nurse practitioner recommend? Did you give her a list of your current medications?

If there are no drug interactions with the old and new meds, I would continue taking the antibiotics as prescribed.

Be sure to take your antibiotics with food. Watch the supplements and additional medications, some may worsen your stomach irritation. You might want to avoid taking anything extra until your stomach is healed. Tylenol would be OK if you really needed something for pain.

Hang in there. You will get better.

I can really sympathize with your situation. Some LLMD's really can be a bit heartless.

I think it's important to know if you are bleeding from the stomach or lower down. If it's your stomach it would look more black and tarry. Kind of like coffee grounds. If it's lower in the intestine it becomes brighter red. It can be something simple like hemmorhoids or a fisure(sp?).. Either way it's usually something less horrid than what we think.

It's usually better to get it properly evaluated.

If you are on Doxy you need to stop taking it and go to a different ABX.

This happened to me and it took months and months to get rid of a very painful situation. Doxy will continue to make your insides ulcerate and bleed, I think.

Two tablespoons of Aloe Vera Gel (nothing by mouth for 30 min after) will soothe and coat your esophogus and stomach and promote healing. I also used a prescription strenght PPI twice daily and went to Biaxin/Amoxy.

I hope you can sort this out!

My husband had H. Pylori ...same abxs used for lyme. We joked that he could have just used my abx stash.

So a Lyme abx break may be fine. I hope you feel better & things resolve quickly.

It's definitely dark.

I am not on doxy now but need it ASAP to treat ehrlicia.

I am taking Carafate four times a day to coat the stomach. It takes 4-6 weeks to heal ulcers with it, so I will try to stay on it. It's really hard to fit it in 4 times a day away from food with all other meds. I am now taking meds 11 times a day. I have to set my alarm at 4:30 in the morning just to time everything out and fit it in.

Just so you are aware, carafe contains aluminum. That adds to heavy metal toxicity and neuro hyper-excitability from that.

Have you used DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice)? Slippery Elm bark? You can read more about those here:

I think I read from a lecture by Dr. H in CA that he thinks Rifampin also hits Ehrlichia. Might be worth a try, as I know the Doxy is hard on the stomach.
