Just thought I'd pass this along....

A friend hired Mosquito Squad to treat his yard. No matter what they did they had tons of mosquitoes and ticks year after year (I personally noted that fact).

He is very happy with the results and said he can now walk out of his treated area and see the mosquitoes swarming in the neighbors yards and yet they do not come in his yard.

I am not promoting this company specifically, just thought I would pass it along as an idea for better protection. They offer standard treatments (with permethrin) for mosquitoes (with an ingredient that also kills adult ticks) and also an alternate natural repellent for mosquitoes and ticks. Not available in NY and NC.

From their website-

"One professional fogging helps protect your family from the nuisance and danger of mosquitoes for 21 days. The spray kills adult mosquitoes (as well as ticks) on contact. Then, as incoming mosquitoes attempt to feed off your greenery, the residue on the leaves knocks these newcomers dead, too."

"Service is automatic, with uniformed professionals spraying your property from backpack-mounted fogging systems every 21 days. Most yards can be treated in about 15 minutes. Family and pets can safely return to the yard 30 minutes after treatment."

"If you prefer to avoid all synthetics, Mosquito Squad offers an all-natural solution as an ideal alternative."

At some point widespread use of permethrin will produce resistance, just like DDT did. In fact, it has already been reported in the scientific literature. While I have been using it on clothing to repel ticks, it makes me nervous, and at some point it will no longer work. So, spraying it all over large areas seems like it might be questionable.
