Does anyone have any advise for continued severe hair loss? I have Lyme and several coinfections and have been on multiple antibiotics. There have been three episodes lasting a few months each when my hair came out in handfuls but I wasn't able to relate it to a specific medication. Any one have a similar story or adivse? Thanks.

I wish I had an answer for hair loss. Hormone fluctuations, infections, stress, and medications may all contribute to this.
Multivitamins and supplements with Biotin might help. You might also consider seeing your doctor to check Thyroid levels
I finally got desperate enough to try Nioxin hair products. It seems to have stopped the hair loss but it has not encouraged new hair growth. My hair is thin enough that you can easily see the scalp now.
Hopefully our hair will grow back once Lyme and Co are under control.

i just saw this. i'm absolutely frantic. my hair is falling out by the handfulls, no lie.
i washed my hair this morning in the sink. too tired to take a shower (now that's lazy!). the sink had at least several groups of 10 hairs or so and it was on my hands.
it doesn't feel near as thick and full.
they gave me 3 bags of abx for diverticulitis, then several weeks more. i had a couple of weeks in december also, plus all the lyme biaxin and flagyl, etc.
i bought a product called hair skin and nails with biotin and am hoping it will help.
am also taking some hormones.
at this rate i'll be bald within a year!!!
do you think it will grow back?
i've got an appt with pcp for shingles next week and i'm going to demand he check thyroid, hormones, etc.

I did not have any loss before treatment...it started a few months into taking azithromycian, I have tyroid condition which is always checked, so I know its not that.
It happened a few months ago with the fly aways, then in the shower shampooing I noticed it just came out...so upsett I stopped washing everyday, because I didn't want to see it. Don't even want to get my hair cut becuase I'm embarassed...so I'm hoping it stops soon since switching to Doxy...
I've heard that patients who take z-pack and azithro for only a few days for simple infections, notice hair loss following the next few weeks to months after taking abx...just google azithro and hair loss!
had levels checked for thyroid all normal, so i beleive it's the medications.
It's very upsetting.....

There was just recently a thread on this that had some good info. You might want to check history and it will be a recent thread.

Diflucan causes hair loss too... It did for me, as soon as I stopped taking it, I noticed all these little sprouts around the hair line on my forehead (gray, but something!

I think it's an autoimmune reaction more than anything.
The body starts attacking hair follicles.
It's no wonder that stephnia is used (per Buhner) in western medicine as a treatment for alopecia.
It's an immune modulator.
