Just finished my 3 weeks of doxy as prescribed by my infectious disease doctor for my early lyme (had the rash). I do feel better on most days but am still pretty wiped out on others so I'm afraid that this wasn't enough treatment. Or is it just the doxy? I made an appointment with a LLMD recommended ont his site whose first appointment is 9/20. This means no antibodics or treatment for two months. Is this wise? What if the Lyme isn't gone? Will I get sicker if I wait or is it ok? Should I try to find another doctor who can see me sooner. My infectious disease doctor feels that I am "cured" so I will not be able to go back to him for more antibiodics to "tide me over." Help.

Unfortunately, many have no choice but to wait it out. You can take some herbs while you are waiting.

Some have opted to go to clinic to clinic for various complaints to get some antibiotics to get thru to doc. visit.
Others try home remedies like cats claw/etc. as option.
And still others want proof of Igenex WB so they go off all treatment for at least 10 days and draw and ship to them. And results in 2 weeks.
It is your life and choice.
If you do go with Igenex-know any bands on WB should be suspect, you do not have to have what CDC/IDSA says you need to be positive for Lyme....

I would not go without treatment for two months. Early intervention is your best shot at a quick remission, or even a complete cure.
Will your regular doc prescribe 2 months of Doxy? Do you have a local Lyme support group? They may know of sympathetic doctors.
At least take herbs. Buhner recommends Andrographis. It's available at vitamin stores and online. Cat's Claw/Samento is another choice.

I would try calling the LLMD you have an appointment with.....tell them your situation (very nicely and politely, do not panic or be demanding...I'm sure they get that a lot).
Ask if there is any way the doctor would prescribe you Doxy to last you until your appointment. Tell them you are very worried about the possibility of the Lyme getting into the chronic stage.
I would also ask them if they have a cancellation list you can be put on, and tell them if they have a cancellation, they can call you the day of.
I would get Doxy any way you can. Hope that helps!

A doctor will probably not prescribe meds over the phone if they haven't seen you for the first time yet. That has been used against Lyme doctors with state medical boards, accusing them of malpractice for "treating" a patient they haven't examined.
Stephen Buhner's book "Healing Lyme" describes various herbs that you can try. I used those for a month while waiting for my LLMD appt., after I ran out of antibiotics from my GP. They seemed to help some.
If you have occasional rosacea that acts up when you go in the sun, or an issue with acne, you could go to a dermatologist. They give out doxycycline indefinitely for those. I know two people who are on it for that. One has been on it continuously for perhaps a decade, though at the lower dose of 200mg/day.

Thank you all for your comments and advice. I found a doctor in Monroe, NY who supposedly treats lyme and am seeing her tomorrow. And she takes insurance. She's about an hour drive from me so my goal is to get enough antibodics until I see the doctor I plan to see in September, who is only five minutes from my house. Of course, if she is fabulous, I will travel to her. Wish me luck!

I waited 2 months in the beginning without treatment (not my fault, the doc never called me with my results for 2 months even though I called and left messages) and my symptoms went from mild tingling to: chest pain, joint pain, muscle pain and burning within the 2 months I was in limbo.
2 months makes a difference.

Thank you all again for your responses. Saw the Monroe doctor and I'm back on Doxy. She also ran 17 blood tests.Waiting for results. I liked her very much so I'm sticking with her.
